Reports of second health worker from Sydney hospital testing positive

The ABC understands that a second health care worker at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19.

Yesterday a 24-year-old student nurse who worked at both Royal North Shore Hospital and Fairfield Hospital tested positive.

A hospital source has told the ABC about the infection, which NSW Health has not yet officially confirmed.

The report is accurate. A lot of my colleagues have been sent for testing and sent home. It's going to be really really bad as I reckon there will be more. All outpatient clinics have been immediately cancelled.

Let's hope vaccinated (less likely to pass it on) and PPE up to scratch

Sounds like a increase in cases today in NSW and many haven’t been in isolation.
I was thinking the opposite (as in not a BIG increase)...or at least if there are a lot of cases most will have been in isolation. Just based on the number of exposure site tweets seems to be a lot less in the past 24 hrs.

Qld. 2 new local cases.

One a Qatar check-in worker. (So most likely this is a new outbreak)

ABC News

Two new locally acquired cases in Queensland

One is a close contact of a previous case and one works at the Brisbane International Airport.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the state hit new testing and vaccination records over the last reporting period.
Two cases were also reported in hotel quarantine.

Steven miles is stoking xenophobia, saying the majority of arrivals are foreign nationals, not citizens

Conveniently not saying that most of them are permanent residents or immediate family members of citizens / PRs

Edit: For the record, the stats are (I didn't even consider that he'd include NZ as foreign):
  • 44,600 Australian citizens arrivals (39%)
  • 9,900 permanent visa holders (9%)
  • 52,300 New Zealand citizens (45%)
  • 10,100 temporary visa holders (9%)

Menzies staff?

I still think this is all about the Kiwis....Skynews has done this too in a 'foreigners bad' story:

You wouldn't think that check in agents would have contact with inbound travellers. I guess we'll see, seems more likely to have a common link with the DFO link either direct (went there for lunch) or a missing link.

I guess that's the problem having an existing cluster at the airport (Brisbane DFO is within the BNE airport grounds and not far from the international terminal if you're not aware).

So - We have 4 TVs in our office communal area... and the QLD presser started and our big big boss came over and turned off all of them. This is a very senior healthcare exec in QLD...

He said ‘this isn’t funny any more, it’s dangerous what they are doing and I won’t stand for this misinformation being spread for political gain and we don’t tolerate racism in this office either. After yesterday we will not be watching this.’ We are allowed to turn them back on for NSW though :)

So thanks for the update as I didn’t have time to stream it... And sad to hear more xenophobic comments came out today as well. Deplorable.

Good to see only one more worry/mystery case really in QLD - I guess annoying because looks like a fresh outbreak but they should all be wearing masks in the airport so hopefully contained....

I think you quite commonly see check in agents again airside at the gate...maybe particularly for the contracted out services. I guess it would depend on the turnaround time whether they might also be at the gate for the inbound.

(Not confirmed) but some of them apparently help in escorting arriving passengers back. Was just on radio.

Dr Young stated that their role included dealing with aircrew., as well as passengers. How accurate that is I do not know.

Checkin staff can work normally at two distinct locations. Initial checkin area outside security. But also at the desk in the gate lounge where people and crew board.

Also when I have exited a plane I have passed checkin staff.

Over the years I have also had the same staff member at both locations.

Also, while I saw that happen all the time at MEL pre-covid...it's probably not something that should be happening at the moment, although I guess many people do work airside so not sure.

Jeanette loses her cool with journos on advice to the young on AZ

  • I’m a Doctor, that’s my advice, feel free to be advised from other sources

She actually said "Can't we please stop all this, this is just getting silly" in response to questions about her comments yesterday.

We agree, your comments were silly/dangerous/misleading etc 😜

I was disappointed because I thought it would all kick off again from there but sadly no....

And then AP shut down Bianca (Sky news?) for being rude.
