Australia Singapore Travel Bubble by July

Agreed - nice to see our government is starting to think of innovative ways to get the border open and address the quarantine issue. Maybe my planned and booked trip to the Seychelles in March 2022 has some chance of happening,

Notice the use of the term “potentially” with regard to quarantine. Whilst that still hangs over peoples’ heads, there won’t be much more than token travel.
I’d rather quarantine in Singapore than Australia though.

Well it's all a bit useless because unless you've had the jab it's a no go. Given the rate of vaccination in Oz most of us are going to be waiting a long time for that to happen.

I imagine any program will only last as long as there's no outbreak from it.... imagine the outrage: a Singapore outbreak caused by quarantined travellers destined for Australia.

Will any of the general population in Aus have been vaccinated by July?

None the less, I'll certainly be on a plane as soon as I can be confident I won't be quarantined on either end of the trip! I like this idea!

Cost wise, yes. About $800 cheaper for a single and $1000 cheaper for a couple.

Foodwise, my experience was much better food in Australian quarantine, but may have been unlucky - the food in Sydney was catered in the hotel was hot and quite tasty and a lot of variation and the food in Singapore I had during HQ was outsourced to a catering company. Always was cold by the time it got to you and not particularly tasty.

We've heard of potential travel bubbles opening so many times over the past year. None have happened so far and I don't see this happening either.

Among other issues, how can the government realistically remove the quarantine requirement/travel ban for vaccinated travellers when many Australians still haven't been offered a vaccine yet? That creates a two-tier system in which Australians have no say as to which group they're in.

I can’t see border force giving up their new powers so readily and all it will take is 1 plane load to be thrown into quarantine to stuff the whole idea.. singapore has their act together regarding arrivals whereas we are still in March 2020

Well I am hopeful this bubble succeeds. At least the Singapore Government believes in a bubble where clearly NZ doesn't.
If so we will be off to Singapore in August.Awards booked 6 months ago.

I'll be delaying my next trip to Australia if this is going to happen! Currently planning late May/early June, but if a bubble is coming in July, well it's only 2 weeks later accounting for HQ.

I remain sceptical though. It could have happened already if the AU government were willing.

We can't even make it happen with NZ.... let alone Singapore... a nice dream but with paranoid attitude of our governments, both state and federal, this will remain a dream for the foreseeable future imo.

To be fair, the NZ bubble requires the NZ government to come to the party with not requiring travellers from Australia to quarantine.

But to the rest of your point, a bubble with Singapore is entirely within the control of the Australian government. It could happen today if the government wanted it to - Singapore will already accept visitors (not just Singapore citizens and residents) who’ve been in Australia for 14 days prior without the need to quarantine.

If, for an example an Australian who normally lives in Europe, had returned to visit Australia for a month or two, they could do a stopover in Singapore (when returning to Europe) for a few days, provided they get a pass to enter SG, pay for test on arrival in SG and self isolate in a hotel for the 4-5 hrs it takes to get the test back.

The Deputy PM suggests that the Singapore bubble may be extended to Japan and South Korea.

I am more confident of a trip to Singapore in August. The Premiers this month have not put blanket bans on states with one case.
Moved our SYD-SIN trip back a few days to be sure we will have our vaccinations completed.
Were hoping to go on to BKK but I think that is a bridge too far.maybe next year.

On what basis will you get an exception - but I guess you are assuming a bubble. Makes for an interesting exit elsewhere in the world too I guess.
