THE 100ml limit on alcohol, perfumes and other liquids that can be carried on board international flights is to be phased out. The move comes as security equipment that detects liquid explosives is installed at airports in Australia and overseas.
Australia will lead the world in ending the ban from July 1, when the X-ray equipment begins operating in international transit lounges.

Thank cough* for that! Mind you only useful for single sector trips until other countries catch up. Finally my Tumi wash bag which I literally bought in the UK the week that liquid bombers were discovered can be used.

No more dramas with duty free grog?
Still some issues:

"Initially it will apply only to items bought in sealed bags at airport duty-free shops."

"It will be extended from about April next year, in line with a relaxation of the strict 100ml rule at European airports and in the US"

That means, you still won't be able to carry-on that bottle of Grange from your cellar as, say, a gift to "Pa" in NZ. Only item purchased from ON airport duty free stores.

Ya!! It's a start! No doubt flights to Australia will still have the same rules at least for a while.

It seems the equipment will only be installed in the international transit section of the airport. So a purchase OS in a sealed bag will get though a transit connection in Australia.

It's a start.

Definitely as start - just don't open that bag!
