I experienced this scenario with my wife when entering the UK last year and we both passed though the UK/EU line without any issue. In case the rules have changed it may pay to check with one of the immigration officers hovering in the hall before joining the line though.

Thanks all for replying.:D :D :D ...........I forgot to mention both my husband and I are Australian residents and both have Australian passports, but I also have a British Passport, is this same as your situation GDSman??

I am thinking of using my Australian Passport to exit/enter Australia and using my British Passport to enter UK. I am wondering will there be a problem that there will not be a stamp in my British Passport.

It sounds like from previous postings it should be okay fot my husband to join me in the UK line at Heathrow.

We depart Europe for Japan from Rome or Helsinki I am not sure where we will clear immigration/customs. So I assuming I will have to use my British Passport at either of these places to exit Europe.......................

There would not be an issue with this at all. Use whichever passport is most conveniant , other than the requirement that you enter and leave Australia on the Australia passport

I don't think that it is guaranteed. Personally I would avoid the risk and either (a) both use the any country line or (b) go separately and one can sort out luggage reclaim if there is a queue. This would avoid the possible hassles

Once though Aus immigration on departure put your Aus passport at the bottom of the bag and use the UK passport. Nobody will want to see it again until you check in for your flight back to Aus on the way home. It used to be very handy having the UK passport back when Aussies needed a visa for France, but now it's main benefit is the speedy EU immigration control lines (unless you plan on working there of course).

I am planning to travel mostly on Oz passport once I have it due to access to APEC card and limited travel in EU other than PFO/LCA and LHR/LGW.

I was at LHR on tuesday and a non EU person travelling with an EU person joined the EU line; when he got to the desk he was told that he had to go back and join the "other passports" line .

Dave

The only time it has worked for us is when we took our son, aged 2, through T3 LHR.

He had an Aussie passport (now fixed) and we had British passports.

Well he wasn't going to go through the aliens lane on his own...

On arrival into LHR on Tuesday afternon, the "other passports" line was non-existent and processing was faster than the queue for UK and EU passports.

Nope, it will be worse at that time of day.

If you are travelling in J or F you will get an Immigration FastTrack invitation which can help. FastTrack is only open until about 11am as the queues are much more manageable after that time.

Peak immigration processing time (and FCC queues) seems to be up until about 11am each day, and starts at 5am!

Then make sure you get the Immigration FastTrack invitation card from the FA. It makes a big difference.
