Hi all,

I was wondering if Auckland has a F Lounge or just a QP?

Last time I was there I was a lowly PS (paid QC) so didn't need to look for F Lounge but travelling again in Jan and hoping for a better lounge as we have a 3 hour transit.

Yes it has an F Lounge and QP.

The F lounge isn't anything special. It is small, out of date and usually gets quite full.
The problem with having the new MEL and SYD F lounges is that the older ones now look very ordinary.
The beverages are good quality offerings and always a few nibblies on offer but nothing special. From memory there is a shower and a few computer terminals and one plasma screen.
No direct view of the runway (again spoilt in MEL and SYD).

Thanks.

I now know what to look for.

But AKL FLounge always has a good beer selection ;).
Not as good as it used to be ...

IIRC (not counting low alcohol beers) the ONLY Kiwi Brews were Steinlager or Steinlager "Pure".

MACs has been long gone ... :(

Was there last Wed.

Decent selection of beers, although as noted - the NZ ones are lacking (Pure does taste ok though - I now know what the revamped xx_X might taste like!).

For breakfast they had heated pork sausages, quiche things and something else. Was a bit bland.

2 or more showers.

A pseudo view over the tarmac, but not much to see.

Better than some other F lounges in the Qantas network, but nothing special overall.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice, I look forward to visiting and trying a new F Lounge.

There now, one has a choice of:
  • Steinlager
  • Steinlager Pure
  • Steinlager Premium Light
  • Pure Blonde
  • Crown Lager
  • Heineken
As Mal posted, "pure" is a reasonable drop.

I tried it - had a couple  and ended up with a headache... :(

Everytime I drink Steinlager - regardless of the type - my head hurts the next day - I am sure it has to do with the brewing process or is it that my body is just not used to the purity of the beer?

Now, whats this about Macs? Macs Gold - oh, a gift from God himself... :D

Mr!

Mr!
Just shows how different we all are.

I don't particularly like Macs Gold, I do like Pure Blonde and I have few after effects with Pure Blonde.

I reckon MAC's gold is brilliant!

It was replaced with the Pure Blonde in the NZ QP's about 13 months ago. :(

Note that HP's have been replaced by Pure Blond in Many Domestic QP's duruing the least year and a half.

Two the better beers around, both gazumped by Pure Blonde!

Did I relate here that I don't particularly like pure blonde ...

In my opinion Hahn Premium is not a very good beer. I like Pure Blonde and I am glad that it is now stocked in Qantas Lounges so I have a choice of Crown Lager or Pure Blonde.

JohnK and I are obviously going against the popular trend here but from my perspective Hahn Premium (Florida swamp water) is extremely underwhelming and Macs Gold is dreadful :!:

Well I'm completely the black sheep aren't I?

I'm not impressed by many Australian beers. My primary choice is Coopers (Pale Ale or Sparkling), but Cascade or James Squires are also both good in my books. I'm a QLD born but I despise xx_X.

Needless to say in a not-so-well-stocked QP, for me I'd then turn my eye to the wines or liqueurs.

Sounds ok to me :D

The Flounge door is accessed from the left hand side of the QP Reception Desk (unless it's changed since last time I was there ).

Hmmm, now I'm Qld born-and-bred, but I don't like xx_X. Becoming a regular QP'er made me think HP was the beer of choice (at the time). I've also drunk Crownies but never really liked them.

Then Pure Blonde (and now Naked Pure Blondes) came out and I am quite partial to them on a hot evening (or even a cold one).

I have a regular supply of quite a number of mid and low-strength beers in my "beer fridge" that I am trialling - my current (this weeks) drink is Boag's. The deals at BWS to buy 2 x 6-packs for $25 has also helped my Amex transactions.

I'll just miss trying for the AKL I FL when I travel next month (by about 100 SC, not that it would all credit in time anyway). But as has been published many times, it isn't much to write home about. A lounge which stocks more alcohol than another one isn't a significant difference to me. (It's bad enough getting to the airport at OMG o'clock. I even doubt if the bar would open at that time; I mean, a beer at OMG o'clock??? I've heard of a champagne breakfast but beer is a bit rich...)

I've tried Crownies before - they seem to carry this premium feel about them. However, I do not like them.

Boag's isn't that bad.
