I'm sitting in the QP in GLT and can't help but be rather underwhelmed.

The surrounds and fit out are nice enough, but the food and drink selection - surely you can't be serious Qantas!

The coffee consists for sachets of Nescafe Blend 43 and an urn full of hot water.

The food consists of individual packets of Arnott's Anzac biscuits and the little individual packets of chips you put in your kid's school lunchbox.

It looks remarkably similar to the minibar you would find at cheap and nasty motel. I had come in hoping to find something for lunch (albeit simple) - but will have to look elsewhere.

Now I know this is a regional lounge and you can't expect the same level of amenities as is provided in the bigger airports, but GLT isn't exactly tiny either with a substantial number of QF flights per day, including numerous on 717s.

One of QF's strengths is the regional lounge network - but if they all end up like GLT then what's the difference between the lounge and being out in the terminal?

Pick up your game QF!

It sounds as if it is as per many of the other regional lounges that are on offer.
There are lounges in the network that service aircraft such as 737 (KGI for one,ZNE doesn't have a lounge, yet has 717/737 services) that have very basic offerings.

I would have thought that QF would differentiate the offerings on their lounge page, but it seems as if the larger lounges (PER, SYD QP) all have the same refreshment and beverage icons as the regionals.

Thanks for sharing your first hand account. I've passed on your feedback to the relevant senior manager for their reference.

Thanks Red Roo!

I'll be back in GLT in a couple of months...here's hoping for a coffee machine and some (slightly) more substantial food :)

Let me guess

Nothing will change :)
I thought the whole concept of the regional lounges was for a place to sit and relax with a few snacks, nibblies and something to drink. Very low maintenance. Check-in staff come in and refill the fridge and the snacks.

This is consistent with my experience of Q-Link regional lounges at DPO and LST but I am quite content with the snacks on offer and the self serve bar that is available after noon. I agree it is not somewhere that you can go and have a meal but I had never expected it to be so have never been disappointed.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

While your at it, the Alice Springs qantas club has a very poor range of food as well as lack of seating!..

Must admit I visited the QP in MKY this week and was pleasantly surprised - being post security it was an impressive regional lounge. RedRoo - please pass on my positive feedback! They had fresh bowls of fruit salad, yogurts, toast and a QP host!

But I don't expect regional QPs to be anything but a place to grab a quick drink and snack or read the paper before the flight. I never expect a QP to be a buffet restaurant (First lounges excluded :) )

Having been to all of them in Australia (except DPO) I am quite happy to have them. Ok some are rather dreadful (here's looking at you PHE...) but even then it is still better than paying for an overpriced drink and snack in the airport

Trust me - you don't appreciate it until you have nothing... Like today when I was flying J on VA from TSV (not a small town,) where you get zip and are forced to sit at a cramped boarding gate with the 'great unlounged' ;)

I'll include your positive feedback for balance. :)

Back in my central Qld days... The regional lounges were shocking.

I can remember when GLT first opened and they stuffed up the liquor license so it had nothing but coke.

ROK is by far the worst. The contract staff are the laziest I've crossed on the QF network at the best of times and that applied for lounge maintenance as well. They'd routinely grab a 6 pack of xx_X and throw it in the empty fridge. Apparently that did it for catering. Wasn't impressed either when I walked on once and found the refueler and baggage handlers kicking back feet up on the lounges getting stuck into the "catering".

But, as mentioned, beats VAs offering.

Have to disagree with you here - I've been to ASP multiple times and the food and drink selection there, while basic, has always been FAR better than what I saw in GLT.

I think we have a number of AFFers paying ASP a visit presently, including 3 moderators, so a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th opinion might be forthcoming by the end of the weekend.

The food selection earlier today was OK. Nothing special but OK. There were 4-5 beers available plus a number of self serve spirits.

What were the others going to drink ?
