MIddle Earth airlines have an unfair competitive advantage - I believe they receive unfair subsidies in the form of magic.

Their enforcement of priority boarding is pretty rigorous though.. this guy with a long white beard stands in the pleb lane and says "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!"

Given the challenges facing QFi and the limited resources they have, I think they'd be wiser investing in new and more frequent routes to Asia rather than trying to open up more European ports, especially from BNE and PER. For instance PER-HKG should be daily. They ought to also consider BNE-Seoul given the imminent FTA and the fact its such an important trading partner, along with more BNE-Japan routes.

Something like this....

QF used to fly to KUL some time ago, as I recall... Another route that 'bit the dust"

Shame about KUL. The only way to get there now from SYD on QF and partners is a short overnight in Singapore..not a very pleasant thought.

What QF really ought to do now is to replace these with some really irrelevant destinations: Gaum comes to mind....

What do you mean more?Ever since JAL pulled out there is no direct BNE-NRT flights.Fly out of OOL or via CNS on JQ.No way.Fly via SYD and have some Flounge time is the only choice we have.

I've been to GUM also SPN way back in the late 80's - wasn't a bad place to go for a little R&R.

Flew BNE-GUM with CO & connected over to Saipan on a local airline that I can't recall.

Tough choice. Not.

Only three requests,

1) put some refurbed planes on the SYD-SIN-FRA route
2) restart the SYD-BKK-LHR flights
3) move to T5 in LHR (much better Flounge :D)

Ozmile.
Why do you want syd-bkk-lhr.... if you are going to lhr fly via sin?
I always thought it was crazy that QF flew three different routes SYD/MEL-LHR

Cant see the T5 move happening - not enough gates at T5.
All the T5C expansion rooms seems to have been taken by IB jets.

Refurb jets...
We will see. Are the ERs ever on the FRA service?

I actually prefer flying via BKK, it is about an hour less to LHR, or you get an hour more sleep when coming down to OZ, now with the misaligned connections with BA you loose a lot of time and you are stuck on an A330 to SYD. Also a lot of the time I stop in BKK for work and visiting friends. SIN airport has never done it for me, the carpet makes it look like a cheap casino to me and makes pulling the carry on harder than it should be. And now with the lounge refurbs it is a schimozle. Maybe when they get the new Flounge I'll revisit the idea of going through SIN.

would still be nice :D, they only need it for a couple of hours very early morning and late at night... pleaeaeaeaeaeaease

Not often no

I'm another that liked the BKK routing.....particularly when QF & BA both flew it.

1. Better city/country for a stopover
2. Real easy to get classic awards on BA in F or J......when they both flew it the award availability was overflowing. NB - QF were still very stingy back then & still are!
3. 747 way better than the thing they fly now

You have to feel sorry for the BAEC members flying out here in F via BKK......going to get quite a shock when they walk on the QF sector!

Another who much prefers BKK to SIN.At least put a 747 back on to BKK.

Looking at the discussion around frequency or times of service, there's no doubt the lack of options for departure/arrival times hurts QF vs EK/SQ etc.

Idealistically, I'd see the 787s go to QFi initially, multiple departures from cities currently served by 744s / 380s, and opening up cities currently under served (hello PER, ADL and BNE amongst others). They would then have the right aircraft to open up EU cities from their asian ports, and consolidate pax from multiple flights into onward flights. Basically the same as they do now in SIN, but in multiple ports (due to smaller onward aircraft) and for ports without sufficient onward carriage on QF metal, seamless transfer to other alliance carriers (like currently in HKG and BKK).

Smaller is sometimes better! LAN seems to be profitable "despite" predominately B763s and A340-300s, and multiple "hubs" (SCL, GUA and LIM to name three).

LAN can't be a fair comparison, they are a bit like QFd. Who do they compete with, in terms of quality carriers? It's not like they're up against EK, SQ, CX, QR etc like QFi. Or maybe they are good model - dominant within their continent but routes outside continent limited.

They compete EU--> Sth Am and US--> Sth Am with multiple carriers. BA, IB, AF, AA, DL etc. Agreed, probably not as strong as EK/SQ etc but hardly competition free. They are slowly growing, and have found a model that works. QF need to do something different as the current model (one time of day only departures to only LAX/LHR) isnt working.
