ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Be careful with the woolworths card. Too much ato spend on this one and they will cancel it on you. Small Business spend ok, but be careful. Read my other posts for more information

3000,000 + points last year including half a new BMW
But a big mix of rates, insurance, travel, etc, etc and tax

Just be careful is all I'm suggesting...

Got the infamous cancellation letter today. Been going a bit hard for the last few months. Does anybody know if you can keep spending and more importantly getting points for the 21 days written on the letter until the card is cancelled? I'll miss it just wanted to take it out for one last tango........

How much was too much fandango? Was it ATO exclusive use?

About 50K per month for the last six months with about 30% of it ATO. Well mixed up with lots of general purchases.

I think my undoing was paying ATO $28k in one hit rather than breaking it up like I usually do.

Hence my original comment of $10k to $15k pure ATO spend per month "should" be OK

(@$15k per month that's still ~180,000 each and every year with this "Personal" card, yes you may be able to get more than that, but the question is for how long...? YMMV but I think this card is worth keeping since its $89 p.a for a 1:1 MC, so I don't "abuse" this card)

I got the dreaded cancellation letter a month ago after continued ATO abuse. That's ok I don't mind playing the game I got some good points out of WW. So I dutifully stopped using my card and paid the balance in full. Now they are saying that because my card was cancelled I thereby forfeit the points (6000) I made last month because my card was cancelled as per 25.1 in their T & C. There were no ATO in the 6000. I'm trying to fight it out with them but have little push when my card has just been cancelled.
Anybody else had any similar experiences?

I have a headache reading all this! So many changes...that are significant for a lot of us. now that the Qantas Ultimate is gone I am in search for another. Will look at EDR or HSBC, but has anyone seen anything on the Diner's Club Mastercard earn with the ATO. It was alluded to on here but not reported (it is somewhat a citibank card in a way?? so No??)

Woolies EDRCC and Westpac Black Altitude should get your headache eased without Panadol. Limit the Woolies ATO and you should be fine for QF points at one per dollar. That Westpac Amex is working harder for me since Amex Ultimate bit the dust for ATO. That Westpac card is a beauty for flying on SQ up front.
Pass on Citibank Diners as Citi won't pay points on ATO and the ATO don't take that card anyway.
Their MasterCard at Citi will work at the ATO but for zero points so don't do that!

Bankwest Qantas Platinum is worth considering, however has a 200k point p.a. Limit. Apart from that, 1:1 points per dollar on eligible spend. Paid my tax bill wit it last year no problems.

I understand but legitimately a lot of it has been private, wife's car new 328i, substantial renos at home, rates and insurances on investment properties, lots of accomodation & restaurants, regular monthly PAYG tax on personal income so I am am holding my breath, if they can me I still have the Jetstar MCARD and Signature Citibank but would rather use the WWEDR card.

Ironically I asked for a limit increase and they said NO even though $ 20/$25K per month goes through the card

...............................................

I will check to see if Mrscove still gets points on ATO as I put a bill through in July. Should see it early next week from BankWest Platinum into her QF account.
It had to happen. I am fresh out of ATO bills.
I guess it is travelling time!

i love that line Cove..........."fresh out of ATO bills".
managed to line up 6 X ATO bills at the end of July. clocked up about 80,000 approx X 3points. it was a bit scary but it worked out ok. enjoyed pulling a new scam this week to. we lease a warehouse for our business, and the new owner of the premises sent thru the Council rates for the coming year. nearly $10,000. City of Sydney take Amex, without a surcharge too, great, a simple 30,000 coming my way. funny part is that we have to leave this warehouse soon, so they will have to re-imburse the Council Rates when we vacate the premises. what's the bet we get a cheque instead as they won't have access to credit my CC. hehehe

Great score.....what card is giving you 3 points per dollar, that's amazing. Are you converting them @ 1:1 to QFF or leaving them in Rewards ?

Of course those points mentioned halve as they move from Westpac Amex to the airline so it is a net 1.5 points per dollar.

I prepaid the July BAS so I am still without any tax bills to pay until we return from the UK straight after the election.

News on BankWest paying ATO points or not should be later this week.

OT I know, but sitting in The Private Room as we speak and enjoying every minute of it!!!
Thanks JS!!!

Still upset about loosing my mass velocity point income from using my high flyer card to pay the ATO.

The only other card i have available to me currently is the Westpac Earth Black card. Has anyone tried this card and did they get points crediting for ATO payments?
