ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thanks for the tip!

I started looking into Zippay and they do a credit check. I'll wait until after I apply for my next credit card as I'm not sure if the Zippay query would impact my credit report.
I reckon they do complete a credit check. So probably be mindful of this if you're going to need a "clean" credit file say just before applying for a home loan as I hear some lenders don't like it (I don't have it so no experience). With Zip pay, assuming you have a $2,000 limit, how would it work as a conduit to pay some of our "favourite" billers such as the Fiscal Fiend, Strata, etc? Can you put it into "credit" and do one big payment or limited to daily repayments of your Zip limit? ie Beem was good as we could make payments of no more than $2,000 but we discovered that wasn't a daily limit so larger payments would just be broken down into smaller ones of $2,000. Being able to pay for things in lump sums again would be awesome.

I signed up to Zip when it was first introduced so it might not have been as stringent with applications back then. Overall still a smooth experience with Bpay and the repayment to credit card.

What is the point of Beem now?
It’s just the same as using your bank app
Direct bank transfer
I think I used its split payment functionality once. My main use other than bpay from credit card was to refer people to the platform when they had referral bonuses on.

I guess we weren’t profitable for Beem so it was an ‘easy’ business decision for them to turn off BPay from credit card functionality. If we can use prepaid debit cards when BPay is brought back for non credit card sources, then that might be a way to continue with it. Sure was a good way of making my car lease and strata payments by BPay. Shame that’s all gone the way of the dodo :(
Yep, in addition to providing a way to avoid fees (DEFT for example) it provided points earn from billers who don't (eg other government merchants). Mr Tiktok has killed more than one golden goose

Nope. ATO is grouping multiple payments into one which makes it harder to track. I.e. 1k payments done on fri-sat-sun would be grouped into one 3k payment upon receipt in the ATO payments summary. I've been doing multiple 1k payments as cc for some reason blocked payments higher than that. I was only able to narrow it down to a 3-days range.
Sorry to hear that. I read advice from someone else at some point to use slightly varied amounts for this reason, eg 990 985 980 etc.

After the demise of beem, seems b2bpay is probably the simplest way for me to pay tax bills and a few other items I've got coming at year end.

ipaymy (a bill payment service) is currently offering a one-off fee free payment of up to $50K. Payees include ATO. Their fee is usually 1.25% +GST, so a saving of $687 on $50k. They accept Visa & MC.

The free payment is only available to new users that haven’t previously had an ipaymy account. The promo code is AUFIRST.

How do you pay the ATO with ipaymy? Does it pay to bpay?

Ooof. Just found out about Beem. Signed up for Zip, given $500 limit. Trying to pay rent via DEFT - needs to take BPAY, so ipaymy isn't going to work (I don't have an ABN). Don't have Citi Payall.

Am I just cough outta luck here?

No ABN was requested as I'm an individual.
Sorry - a lot of assumed understanding in my post.

DEFT (rent) is typically paid either by BPAY (free) or by credit card (small fee, but gains points). I got around the fee, like many others, by paying on CC via BPAY with Beem.

It seems like paying rent as an individual via ipaymy requires bank details - I don't have those for DEFT.

Likewise, Zip doesn't accept BPAY payments to DEFT (its payer code is flagged as a rental payment), and I was only granted a $500 limit in any case (my credit score took a hit for absolutely no gain today!)

So looking for alternatives. I've got dragon Amplify Signature, so I'm pretty sure its BPAY payments don't earn points.

Happy to accept a DM from anyone who can recommend a fee-free solution!

albyd, I don't know what sort of checks they do outside the ATO, because I made my payment to the ATO.
If you go to the green bar at the top of the page, you'll find it talks about the free first payment.
The terms & conditions state, inter alia,
  1. The promotion is only valid for customers with an ipaymy account in Australia
  2. The payment must be made with an Australian-issued Visa or Mastercard credit card
  3. The AUFIRST promo code can be redeemed once and is only valid for first-time payments of up to 50,000 AUD

Wondering if citibank premier, suncorp platinum, or virgin money credit card will earn points with ipayall. Those are the I have at the moment. Couldnt find any info.

Does anybody know which visa/MC will still give points for pre-loading the credit card? I have citi premier, ANZ QF black and St George Dragon - I would prefer the dragon

I think they all will - I only have experience with Dragon though so YMMV. Probably best if someone else with experience with one of the other cards weighs in.
I had success with this scenario at ANZ about 9 months ago. Recommend sending them a quick message to confirm it's still active. Downside was the earn rate plummeted after a certain point.
