ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Just got anz reward black today. I am aware the bpay code for anz is 6007 . But the account number ? I do have different anz credit card, I noticed account number is not the same as credit card number 16 digit.

what would happen if I bpay to the credit card 16 digit number ? will the money arrive ?

Unlike CBA credit cards they always use the 16 digit numbers.

Why wouldn't you simply get the ANZ black altitude? Allows you to direct to several airlines while also allowing you to bank points with no expiry.
Query: am I right?
ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is for Qantas,
ANZ Rewards Black is several others excluding Qantas?

your account number is your ANZ black visa number not the Amex number. Just fill it in on the bpay ref and it will go thru

To be fair, they were certainly not meant to be "personal" attacks, rather a criticism of the "behaviour"
You are clearly an intelligent person, and I'm sure we would have a lot in common and could have good conversation on many topics. But I, and many others on this forum, do feel that your behaviour is at the extremes, or outside the realm of what is reasonable

I don't doubt the majority opinion is with you, based on other posts / post likes. I do still stand by my logic though, and I've thought it through several times - as I've said from the start, even though the majority may not agree with me (or perhaps, believe me), I wouldn't do this if I felt it was to the disadvantage of others. Anyway, suggest we leave this topic be as per my previous post, as I fear we're just going to keep going around in circles otherwise.

Someone also pointed out to me that you had mentioned in one of your previous posts:

"I've done it before - as have plenty of others - without issue (beyond phone calls to check everything was legit)."

Doesn't this tell you that if your behaviour is so unusual that the bank telephones you, that you are certainly bringing attention to yourself and to the matter of points for ATO spend.

These were fraud department verification calls, which are very common for large transactions of any type (I used to get them as commonly for large non-ATO transactions as I did for large ATO transactions). So yes, of course this technically constitutes "bringing attention", but it's not the sort of attention we've been discussing.

As an aside, I always found these calls pretty funny for ATO transactions - it would be a very bold (or very stupid) fraudster who stole someone's credit card details and used them to pay their own tax bill!

Yes wafliron I wondered about a fraudster doing that. I have not had a call like that for more than 2 years covering fraud and paying ATO on a Credit Card.

I think where the Bpay account number is different, if you use the actual card number it still works, but it might just take an extra day to process the payment.

Have had a fraud check from 28 degree mastercard. The only details they had were the $ amounts and not the merchant details.

In my case it was for just a few dollars and as I use it overseas I had no idea what the dollar conversion was so the phone call was pointless and told them so if they didn't know the merchant.

I briefly had an ANZ card and the account number (on the statement) was different to the Visa (or Amex) card number. Seemed an unnecessary confusion but presumably a fraud-prevention issue. I always paid using the account number

Sorry, you're right - I was getting myself confused between my Black WBC altitude and my ANZ black rewards.

I had not actually appreciated the point about 3 years to expiry on the rewards card. not likely to be a problem, but worth keeping in mind.

AS far as I know, that is correct. Not sure what the reference to ANZ Black Altitude is...

All good, I was very confused by your statement and I thought I had missed something big :) On a related note, it looks like ANZ is changing the conversion rate from ANZ Rewards to Velocity FF points soon(https://anzrewards.com/public/info.aspx?name=changes).

Thanks for posting that Ghostdunks. I've just called ANZ rewards and spoken with Ellie. Reckons the Black points earn will stay the same (2 ANZ ppd on Visa and 3 on Amex) and will convert to velocity at 2:1 whereas it's currently 2.25:1. Said they hadn't published anything on the website but this was what the change was.

I'm not complaining, quite stoked they've actually made them worth more whereas usually rewards programs only devalue.

Interested in confirming if any other member has had the same information from ANZ. If so, I'll hold off transferring to Velocity until the next promo in November as I don't need the points straight away.

Amazing anz rewards black, Spent late yesterday on ATO payment, and reward points posted just now. even quicker than Westpac cards.

So happy :D and now waiting 50,000 reward bonus point from ANZ ( current promotion )

Just about to make my first fiscal contribution with ANZ Black. I'll be paying a multiple of the modest limit on Black. Can I put it into credit to do so? No weird T&Cs about no points of it's in credit?

With July's better Velocity conversion, will even endeavor to put other expenses on it to mix it up.

Quick question for you guys regarding big single ATO spends on the Black card of choice being discussed.
Can you preload the card, or do you make your payments in a number of transactions up to your limit to get points?

Following my question earlier tonight I didn't see anything about it in the T&Cs so went ahead and preloaded it and made my payments. YMMV. I'll report back if all doesn't go according to plan.

As another data point, HSBC QF Platinum card continues to give points 1:1 for me, as it has for the past few years.
