ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

The US consulate pages on obtaining work visa (and SSN) make the ATO's website look modern and user friendly.

mmmm-just in from ANZ: limit of 6000 points per month on each of (QF) FF platinum Visa and Amex. ie 144,000 points per year. The walls are closing in

correction, sorry: 6000 dollars for each of the Visa and Amex. Per statement period

At the rate they are going it won't be long before the banks cut points on other big ticket outlays such as new cars.

Random question - has anybody tried using the ATO's credit card payment facility over the phone rather than through the Optus SmartPay system online? Does it appear on the statement in the same way as online payments?

Thinking that with two different merchant setups....... well... you get the idea. :p

I just did 7 payments but did them on line to get the receipt copies.
I do like your name ChrisFlyer!
Figured I wanted some cheap QF points, some points to warehouses to beat expiry and some to KrisFlyer.
Thought I should share it around because I can but with 14 receipts the receipt numbers only went up by about 250 so I guess I am getting faster at doing these CC payments.

Haha cheers - couldn't believe it was still available! Nice one with the receipts... now you just need the ATO to increase the maximum payment amount citing that the cap per transaction is costing Australian businesses money in lost productivity by having to submit several payments just to pay one debt. :p

Btw, that was your 6,000th post - congrats!

6,000 posts are quite a few. I hope some posts helped AFFers move to the front seats at the lowest possible cost.
The ATO was at $10,000 a time when js started this thread. You just run with what is available and I do this paying thingy outside of my work hours so productivity isn't affected.

10000 at a time. Ah yes cove I remember it well. It was a 3 month trial that never ended! It above all else has changed the way the UXB clan is able to fly back to the UK to see the grandparents UXB and for that reason the first toast with Krug is always to give thanks for what we are about to receive with a little help from our friends js , AFF and the ATO

Just received an email from the ATO saying that I have a refund due even though I have paid none of my own tax. "After the last calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a refund of 3188.52 AUD".

I did not open the attachment. Never rec'd one of these from 'the ATO' before although I have recently paid two other people's tax. It certainly seems a scam.

It's a scam. Ignore it.

As a consolation for the bad news about Westpac culling ATO payments, I have some good news for those with a WA Pay-Roll tax liability. I spoke to the Acting Director of the WA Dept of Finance last week and they expect to allow payment by CC within the next 12 months. At present only land tax can be paid by CC.

Good call CJ. I am about to pay the fortnightly wages so payroll tax in WA on a credit card would be lovely.

What do mean about Westpac culling??? The black cards still earn miles at ATO.

No ATO earn for MasterCard/Visa and half rate on Amex making them not worth the effort for that spend from 9 November.

Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer remains a survivor as it is co-branded meaning Westpac and Singapore Airlines both have to agree to changes is what I am thinking. Black Altitude bites the dust in 7 weeks for reasonable ATO points earn.
Because I have two commas of points warehoused I won't want to cancel the Black card for quite a long time and that may be years.
I still have a GM Holden rebate card running to get $3,000 off each new Commodore so I am not superstitious. That one changed about 4 years ago but had a 5 year tail.
