ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

The idiosyncrasies of the Aussie tax system mean that I probably won't pay much, if any, personal income tax this year (FY13), but next year will be interesting... No easy ATO points, but almost twice the cash... you win some, you lose some :p

YMMV.
Not having a tax obligation is even more a reaosn to dump $$$ on your TFN and file your returns early July :p

After the disappointment of not getting any offers for easy points from Woolworths / EDR this week, it was refreshing to pay some taxes (PAYG/GST) for some J upgrade fun to Melbourne next week... :D

I hate to think about when earning points this easy stops  .. when it does there is no way I'm going to burn points for JASA's / J Upgrades for such short distances. But while the points harvest from the ATO continues, whY NOT...! :p

I am starting to get a little confused (or lazy) about which cards are crediting points for ATO transactions and the general information about the card and its use it practice etc.

Is it possible that we summarise which cards are currently working for ATO transactions crediting points? I am now down to only my NAB cards after Citibank and AMEX stitched us. I certainly need to apply for some others with the NAB $100K limit and high cost to low points earn ratio.

eg. something like…

Issuer: NAB
Card: Qantas Rewards Premium (previous name - NAB Qantas Platinum)
Type: VISA/AMEX Combo
Points (VISA): .05 points per $1
Points (AMEX): 1.5 points per $1
Limits: $100k spend per period (per month) limit
ATO Points Status: Points Earned
Practical Info: There doesn’t appear to be a need to mix transactions. Large ATO transactions accepted without questions

with JASA's impending extinction, might as well change FF programs? or classic and upgrade will keep you hungry for QFF points?

Hence why I made the comparison that QFF may be the new QFI, lacking interest and profit. Seriously red roo and qantas, things can change pretty quickly and you might actually find you enhance yourself out of existence. Again, DJ must love this discussion, almost as much as the SQ smiles here when QF81 was enhanced ;)

It's a good point. However yes, I still have an appetite for QFF points based on burning them using classic and upgrade.

To be honest I have never done or needed a JASA as I fly enough to maintain platinum status, and too far off platinum one to get there.

Within reason I have never had trouble getting a classic award. I burn on average 2 tickets business return to Europe once or twice a year, plus upgrade every flight I’m not already business on within Australia.

I must admit changing or having multiple points earn programs/cards did cross my mind as QFF points were building a little high, so I did a little research. However I now have renewed faith as with the Malaysia one world and Emirates hook-up this is looking pretty promising for me (and should be for all). I have had a Malaysia business return to Europe for 2, and currently looking forward to a Emirates first return to Europe for 2 booked in June. So with this renewed faith I have decided to keep the QFF earn. Also with Qatar joining one world on the horizon I only see our burning choices greatly improving.

Any other cards people are using for large ATO payments that are still crediting points? Bankwest?

Handle - 'shifty' - cove's son?
Nope. Not even a brother from another mother. I do have reasonable monthly ATO payments to make though. Not sure they will be at coves level.

Thought it was about time I joined and participated instead of just reading...

Need some new cards. whats the go after the Citibank fallout?

Has QANTAS announced the end of JASA's, or are we just guessing? I can't find any news of it but have been busy so not paying attention... Thanks!

I'm thinking the same....for different reason. I'm just about to cross the line for LTG. After reading so many posts on SQ's easy & cheap F redemptions........I'm going to dip the toes into the SQ bucket.

Not yet.....the date of 18th May has been speculated as a possibility.

Thanks, that would be annoying as I just cracked 7 figures in my QFF account, and with this round of ATO payments still to hit the account. :(
