ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

does anyone know if you can use discoutned coles giftcards to purchases these Mastercards? or does that break the, can't purchase a giftcard with a giftcard rule. I have access to 7.5% off Coles Card, so could make this quite valuable if it works.

Ok potential dumb question, has anyone tried to pay the ATO with US Amex? I'm not sure what the earn rate would be and assume the fee is still 1.45% - at least any easy to hit sign on bonuses at min

Yep did exactly that and its 1.45% no matter which Amex you have worldwide, unlike in the case of Visa/MC.

A huge sweet spot. Almost makes me want a tax bill. Knock off a Biz Plat sign up bonus or two and collect a cool 150-300K US Amex points (equivalent to 300-600K Australian Amex points).

Just trying to make some card payments in ATO sure this morning with a GC which I bought last night. I’ve checked the funds loaded but payment not going thru on ATO site. Is it down
Or might they have blocked this form of payment?

You need to wait 2-4 days to see it on the ato side.

I managed to use one last night - assuming it's the luck of the draw. I'll hold off for a few days. Just don't want them to be hacked.

could someone help me out here - read the last 10 pages and still confused (since Beem is no longer an option).

Wanting to pay off a PAYG (sole trader) $2.5k tax bill with my AMEX Plat Edge - not sure what the best way as I want to maximise points and minimums fees (I know - asking for too much).

Any thoughts? I'm all ears here and very new to this game.

Appears the simplest and least time intensive method is to use a payments processor with your points earning credit card. Sniip seems to be easiest. Best to do your research on this count for the one which best suits your requirements & what you value points at so you're not paying too much. As this aspect is personal, YMMV. Most platforms are set up to deal with B2B payments so you'll need an ABN to sign up with - ATO is already pre-loaded on all of them so will be easy to do from there.

I discovered that the AMEX Plat Edge actually gets points from paying the ATO so effectively, the processing fee works out to be better (1.45% ATO vs Sniip 1.99%) so may go with paying the ATO directly.

Unfortunately not a member/part of other reward schemes so will just go with AMEX to earn points.

On a side note: how much are these amex points worth? I have absolutely no idea how to do the maths - could you or someone guide me in the right direction?

Havent done the sums but I think it will be tough to make Platinum Edge under 1.5c/$
I am a complete newbie, how does one do the 'sums' on whether its worth the points or not?

"Worth" is what you will redeem those points for... Which only you can answer.

No point (no pun intended) buying a gift card with Amex points which gets you 0.5c per point but you spent 1.5c earning each point for example. So you'll actually behind 1c/$

Maybe another silly question but is it also feasible to use a Aus Amex to pay the ATO. Does ATO payment count towards Aus AMEX minimum spend? or perhaps it has a reduced reward rate?

Just received a letter from the Dragon saying redemption rates from Amplify to KrisFlyer are dropping from 2:1 to 3:1 - had this been announced previously? Seriously reduces the value prop of this card now.
Was sorta expecting it for ages but no email as yet for me

I guess perhaps the star alliance HSBC might now be worth a look.

At least the dragon got me to the eofy this year
