ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thanks cove much appreciated. I have a Westpac Business Plat combo (Amex and visa) which earns 0.5 points fee dollar for ATO, which translates to 0.25 FF points per dollar spent. Which is pittance considering the surcharge remains the same.

Does anyone know if you get points on ato spend from the Westpac business rewards aquire card?
its normally only .66 points per dollar anyway, but ill only be doing a very small ato spend
on my small sole trader

This from the T+c's of plat bus credit cards

government payments
means any transaction treated

by us as a government payment to any Australian

federal, state or local government agency, service

or department or any Australian court or tribunal,

including where you or the additional cardholder use

the card or card account to:

• make payments to the Australian Taxation Office;

• pay vehicle licensing and registration;

• pay fines issued by any government, agency, service

or department;

• pay bail and bond payments;

• pay council rates or fees; and

• pay court costs including alimony and child support

Are you sure you get ATO points???

Thanks for that cove.

I am probably being ignorant as how to often changes are made and how much effort would be required to keep something like that up to date so it was just wishful thinking...

If you are paying under $ 2,500 per month the Woolworths Qantas FF c/card is 1:1 over $ 2,500 you get 1 point per $ 2 eg $ 10K = 6,250 points

benhadi you won't fly high with anything managed, issued or controlled by Citibank in Australia in respect of ATO as they will charge 0.42% for zero points each time.
Qantas Credit Union Credit Card allows ATO up to $10,000 per day limit. Their application may test you so you will need to be tenacious. You may qualify for 30,000 points over 6 months at 5,000 per month if you follow the rules. The annual cost is $195. Also there are bonuses on Qantas purchases.

what is the ATO earn on the QCU CC? is it same as the 1:1 just like for regular purchases?

is there anywhere i can read about the 30,000 points bonus that you've mentioned? a quick look at the QCU website about the card didn't seem to have brought it up.

thanks!

Yes QCU CC pays 1 point per dollar. When I joined the offer was 6 months of 5000 points per month provided you use your card each month. As I have said the application will test you as they ask for lots of information. The annual fee was $195 at the time I joined.

The 30,000 points offer comes and goes from time to time. Apparently not available at the moment but on past performance likely to reappear within the next 12 months.

Thanks for the update on Qantas Credit Union Jacques.
With BankWest Platinum it probably still works to a limit of 200,000 points capping. I heard that new cards were earning less but that does not seem to apply to the card Mrscove holds. The new year is sometime in August for her card so a test will be the best idea. She has had the card for at least 3 lots of 200,000 and maybe 4 lots.
Her HSBC card is still the full deal as it missed the downgrade so it can go 300,000 points.

Does anyone know if the ANZ Qantas FF Amex pays 1.5pts/$ with the ATO? I recently took up the card to take advantage of the 50,000 point promo and have a big tax bill pending. want to see if I can earn an extra 0.5pnt/$ rather than simply using my HSBC visa card and getting 1:1?

I have ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card (amex/vs combo) and it paid points on the Amex 2 days ago, though the Platinum card has a $6k points cap on each card per month.

Re: westpac business plat, yes I'm sure. I have received points on ATO payments albeit at very poor earn rates.

Well done . I've never been brave enough to do even a test payment as the T+c's have been very clear since I got the card, even prior to the Westpac black changes that reduced the earn rates . I was under the impression no ATO points at all.....you live and learn on this forum:)

Are there any good for ATO uncapped visa/master at $1 for 1 QFF rate out there?
I have an older HSBC Qantas Platinum Visa (that I took up about 6 months ago) that has no cap...looking at the website, the current equivalent card now has a cap of $2,500 per month (reverts to 0.5/$ after that).

Do you mean the BusinessChoice Rewards card? I can't answer your question but would be interested in knowing how your ATO test goes as I was looking at getting the BusinessChoice card.

UPDATE: $2,500 cap applies to all these cards now...bugger!

I'm pretty sure there is a grace period for HSBC Plat holders who signed up during 2015 before the changes were made

HSBC - Yeah, can't remember where I read it, but it was at least a few more months before the 2500 cap kicks in and something about that they would write to you. I am just shy of the total 300k cap after last weeks ATO run, so this cards done for me now.

So just to sum up,

QCU and nothing else?

I have over 20k to pay =\

Bank of Melb Amplify CC gives 0.75ppd plus 10% birthday bonus gives a total of 0.82ppd which is uncapped and reasonable for the 0.42 % surcharge.
