I now have exactly 12 months, starting with 0 status credits, to retain Velocity Gold. I have until 31 October 2011 to retain QF WP, with 680 SC's in hand & more travel to go. It wont be an option to achieve both, and WP may need a JASA to get over the line.
So, given the enhancements to both programs, what would you do?

  • Go for Velocity Gold, and do all domestic & NZ travel on DJ, knowing that QF SG is in the bag (and there's a chance of being comped WP)

  • Go for WP, retain Velocity Gold until May 2012, and then ( I assume) drop to velocity silver.
Most travel is domestic - the only OS travel other than NZ I have planned this year is to South Africa in October - and there is no option for velocity earn on that trip.
The other big consideration is that the only way into the premium cabins for me is via upgrade - either award or op up. Currently the former's an option on QF but not on velocity:(.

Quite a quandary.... May before even more difficult to decide when the new Velocity revamp is announced.... Expected soon I believe.... Good luck deciding....

I'm on a double gold path but am 15SC away from platinum retain. The way qantas is going I think a switch to Virgin is in order. They seem to be making the right moves.

In terms of velocity earn. What about going to south africa via the middle
East with etihad? Is that an option? Long trip, but might jump the gold huddle.

Will be flying to SA with Mrs G and 1 YO Baby G. On QF we would book Y+ and put in for an award. On Etihad it is either Y or J - and we cant afford J. One offbeat option is to fly Malaysian, as Amex travel can do a companion J fare for about the same as QF Y+.

With a 1yo via middle east I would say not good. Malaysian - does that earn status with virgin? For the good of parents and child I think you need to stick to the most direct flight to SA.

This is a tough one - as someone who is standing on the opposite corner of the crossroad (six months into my year, QFF Gold is in the bag, so what to do with the next six - something on DJ, or go for QFWP?)

Double gold has its attractions - but then, so does WP!

Would suggest that if most/all of your domestic travel is through ports that DJ have a lounge in, go for double gold.
