Yeah 100%. Especially the case with EK (using QF points), but it's also applicable as a general observation

e.g. Next Feb a Qantas award MEL-AMS in economy is 139800 points and $1047. Revenue cost for same flights is currently from $2216 and earns 5300 points on EK prime.

I usually take 1 QF point = 1c. At this rate, the Y redemption in your example comes to approx $2445, whereas the revenue is $2216 - making the redemption less lucrative ...
