Article: Daytime Flights from Asia to Australia

Planning the return from Europe for September and Istanbul to BKK then BKK to SYD are both 9 hours which splits the return nicely. And I noticed that Royal Thai has a 0830 flight out of BKK arriving at 2030. Mrs Warks says she sleeps better on day flights so that will be the go.

Not sure they're "steering clear" but short of something like the QF32 mentioned above, a QF "day flight" would require the inbound Oz-SIN flight(s) to be most likely a night flight up to SIN. Although, strangely, many here seem to think that a "sparrow's" arrival is a good thing for business people (personally I hated them), l

Whilst as a basic rule I prefer to avoid overnight flights wherever possible, the north/west bound overnights from East CoastAustralia to SE Asia are IMHO more palatable than the south/east bound ones from SE Asia to Australia. They are slightly longer and have better departure and arrival times for sleep.

Having recently been on SQ237 from SIN to MEL that is scheduled to depart at 0145, I 100 per cent agree. Not an enjoyable flight with minimal sleeping time in J.

Batik Air will add a daytime KUL-SYD option in July, running on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Departing 09:40, arriving 20:00.

Assuming the price and availability of fuel is not stupid.

I'll be on CX163 HKG to MEL in just over a months' time - departs 11:20 HKT and arrives MEL 22:15 AEST.

Will be on the Aria Suite too, looking forward to it :)

Enjoy it! Likewise will be sampling Aria on the same route but in July. A mate who flew it few months back said it felt slightly more cramped than before but had good things to say about it.

HKT = Hong Kong Time?

Yep, HK time.

Thankyou and likewise!

I do imagine it would be slightly narrower than the A350 and non-refurbished B777 products, but at least it's new.

Fingers crossed there's no aircraft changes (I've checked the history and all CX163 flights have been operating with the refurbished 777-300ERs in the past week or so at least).

As a person who's flying CX in June/July ... how does one find out if one's scheduled to be on a refurb'd aircraft?

Thanks @SeatBackForward … seems the legs between Oz & HK are Aria (the ones between HK & Europe are A350’s).

Now we just gotta keep our fingers crossed that those flights aren’t cancelled …

If your seat map has a seat 18K on it (but no other seats in Row 18), plus 5 full rows in the rear business cabin, you've got a refurbished 777-300ER.

Also, a listing of flights currently operated with refurbished aircraft are as per below:

Australian Routes
Melbourne (MEL) — daily on the CX163/178 rotation
Sydney (SYD) — daily on the CX101/100 rotation

International Routes
Frankfurt (FRA) — daily on the CX289/288 rotation
London (LHR) — daily on the CX255/250 rotation
Milan (MXP) — 3x weekly on the CX233/234 rotation
San Francisco (SFO) — daily on the CX872/873 rotation
Tokyo Haneda (HND) — daily on the CX548/549 rotation
Vancouver (YVR) — daily on the CX888/865 rotation
