What would be the minimum time needed to complete this trip?

With the best available connections, you could hypothetically depart Melbourne at 10:25am on a Monday, spend 5 hours 50 mins in Hong Kong, spend 4 hrs 40 mins in London, 7 hrs 35mins in Los Angeles and be back in Melbourne for 5:45am Thursday morning.

Hi SimonD,

is there any scope to include an open jaw in the US? EG LHR-SFO/SEA//LAX-AU?

Cheers

Hi Oxy,

Unfortunately not, the routing of the fare is pretty strict.

SYD-MEL-HKG(VS)LON
SYD-LAX(VS)LON

These are the only options.

This fare also exists for other times during the year:

Code:
  PERMITTED 05JUL 17 THROUGH 26SEP 17 OR 26NOV 17 THROUGH
  05DEC 17 OR 24DEC 17 THROUGH 10FEB 18 ON THE FIRST

Price is $37xx AUD for 26 NOV 17 - 05 DEC 17 or 24 DEC 17 - 10 FEB 18.

What would be the status credit earn on this trip?
I play golf so can't count too good over one hand, but I guessed 655pts.

I can offer a RTW for $3200ish depending on departure city.

Here's an example I'm looking at booking myself on.

1. VA 308 I 25SEP BNEMEL HK2 0655 0920 O* E MO 1
2. VA 87 I 25SEP MELHKG HK2 1025 1805 O* E MO 1
OPERATED BY VIRGIN AUST FOR VIRGIN
3. VS 207 Z 28SEP HKGLHR HK2 2355 #0530 O* E TH
4. VS 23 Z 04OCT LHRLAX HK2 1540 1850 O* E WE
5. VA 6 I 21OCT LAXBNE HK2 1115 #1815 O* E SA
OPERATED BY VIRGIN AUST INTL

If you look for AU-LAX-LHR-LAX-AU, there's fewer taxes and the price can go below $3100.

You'll need to depart from July until 26 September this year. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a PM with your contact details and travel plans and I can pull something together.

Thanks to everyone who's contacted me over the last 24 hours. If you're seeing this special now, please be aware that the availability in J is severely limited in July, August and early September. I'm doing my best to reply to all PMs with suitable options, so please do not think I've forgotten about you.

This round-the-world offering is available on dates outside these dates, but it won't be $3100. I was able to secure two tickets in October for $3900pp which is still a fantastic offering for a J RTW. There's still the economy option from $1115 for similar dates.

I'd like to give Gold Member a double like for his Fright Centre comment :D

Then you'll be pleased to know that I booked a ticket today at $3,098 ex-MEL using no other than my local FrightCentre! They loved me - I told them exactly what I wanted with flexibility limits on each segment and all up I spent about 30 mins total interaction across two emails and one call before ticketing.

I took some interest as to their cost and apparently FC is making no more than 5% on all ex-AUS fares. On a $3100 fare, IMHO that's losing money on most customers that have no idea what they want. But clearly VA (and evidently VS) are dumping biz fares on market very cheaply to fill some seats within short-medium departure dates. And during peak season to the Northern Hemisphere as well. VA's most recent financial performance commentary does not point to poor premium international yield however this may prove a new trend going forward if this fire sale is anything to go by.

MEL-HKG-LHR-LAX-MEL

It's a bit late to be planning any trips right now though as the offer was valid until tonight, unless it has been extended?

Ticketing must be by 11:59pm 20/05. There is another sale fare that runs until 15/06 but it's roughly $37xx AUD from the east coast however has more extensive dates.

Hmmm... FC must've published midnight Friday for full payment but given themselves another day to conduct any outstanding ticketing.

I have one waiting to be ticketed on the new sale which runs until 15th June. Departing 28/11 Mel-lax-lhr-hkg-Mel
Was advised the sale also was available from 24/12-mid Jan departures.

Assuming availability in J class RTW, whats the best routing to take for SC's and Velocity points?
For any normal velocity member I came up with ~43k points and 660SC's?

BNE - MEL = 874 x 2 for business = 1748 & 60 SC
MEL - HKG = 4614 x 2 for business = 9228 & 120 SC
HKG - LHR = 5970 X 1.5 for partner business = 8955 & 160 SC
LHR - LAX = 5442 X 1.5 for partner business = 8133 & 160 SC
LAX - BNE = 7495 X 2 for business = 14990 & 160 SC

= 43054 points & 660 SC

If silver status
= extra 50% points
Totals 64581 points

If gold = 75% extra
Totals 75344.5

Does this sound accurate?
Takes into consideration different earn rates with VS

EDIT: This is for routing obviously shown BNE-MEL-HKG-LHR-LAX-BNE
