Are fares usually cheaper on AA.com ??

Hi all (I'm new here!)

I thought I would give this a go today, and so booked a simple MEL/ADL return flight via AA website. Everything seemed to work but it's been about 4 hours now and I haven't received an email confirmation, and the "record locator" doesn't work on the AA website to retrieve the reservation details.

Does anyone know if this is normal? Should the email have come pretty much straight away or does it take a little time?

Cheers,
Jon

Give QF or AA a call and verify the status of the booking; ime , the booking gets ticketed pretty quickly

Thanks - it just came through, at about 9pm - took 7 hours!

My aa.com booked flight was cancelled by Qantas (they phased out this route) and I had to call AA for a refund, which will take 4 - 8 weeks apparently. Lucky it wasn't much money involved, only a short domestic flight. But apart from this unusual glitch the booking seemed to work fine and I will be trying it again, at least it seems a way to avoid the excessive new CC fee.

For me the biggest advantage (if it works) will be that the fares are upgradeable. It will be nice for trips I do regularly (eg MEL/BNE) not to have to pay the $80-$100 extra for Super Saver on the off-chance that there will be an upgrade available.

I called AA to add my QFF# to the booking, which was fine, but it hasn't shown up yet on the "Your Bookings" page on the qantas website - does anyone know if it should? I thought I read someone earlier in the thread say that this did happen.

Yes, it did for me - right away in fact. Perhaps AA are still getting around to adding your QFF number.

I like the instantness (is that a word?) of ones FF details appearing on the QF website, in fact I suggest most website features are better than aa.com IMO.

Try "instantaneousness" :D

I'm about to book some domestic flights on AA.COM to hopefully finish my AA Plat Challenge. Wonderful to save $ and have a TA like Dave Noble.

Is there something in particular that I have to do? I tried too look up BNE-NRT and it routed me via LAX :D:D

Go to "more options"

put the dates in and select number of stops = 0

Make sure that All carriers or All one world carriers is selected

should then get the QF flights returned

Thanks so much Dave! Brilliant, it's worked.

If I purchase a flight to the United States using the AA website and using an English address, is this going to cause issues with Immigration?

(Bearing in mind just about every detail of your flight history/credit card data/purchase data is transferred to the US immigration authorities when you check in)

Would it make any difference to have this obfuscated through the Qantas Amadeus system - IE flying Qantas rather than AA (which I assume would use your FF details)?

I am not clear about the flight class - sorry if this has already been answered. If I:

  1. Book a discount economy QF flight (eg red-edeal) on the QF website but put in my AA number I won't get any AA miles and the flight is not upgradable using points, correct?
  2. However if I book a cheap QF flight via the aa.com website and put in my AA number I do get some AA miles for that flight?
  3. And the above aa.com booked cheap QF flight is also upgradable using points?
My daughter turns two shortly (have to pay for her seat now....) so I am looking at the option of enrolling her either in QFF or in AA rewards. But she would fly mostly QF domestic here with an occasional O/S flight. Thanks for any tips!

I don't think you can put your AA number in on the QF website can you?
If you can, I don't see why you couldn't get AA miles this way.

However if I book a cheap QF flight via the aa.com website and put in my AA number I do get some AA miles for that flight?
Again, I would expect so. AA are a QF partner after all.

And the above aa.com booked cheap QF flight is also upgradable using points?
Apparently, yes. I'm about to find out :) The flight I bought was booked in S class, and it's only N, O and Q that aren't upgradeable.

Cheers,
Jon

Soundguy, the answer to your question 1 from opusman is correct. Using the QF website, you can only insert your QFF number. You need to ring either QF or AA and quote the record locator and have it manually entered. You may get AA miles, it all depends on the fare class you have purchased, Look at AA's QF Mileage Table to ascertain what level of mileage and EQP's you will receive in your AAccount.

For question 2, the same answer above applies - so long as it's a fare that is eligible to collect mileage and points (from on table) then it'll earn. Note that there are fares classes that don't earn.

The flight may be upgradeable (as per opusman's last response) with your QF points but not AA points. If you have booked either via the AA or QF websites (and your AA number is then entered in the bookings), then you need to ring QF Res and with your QF number, see if there are upgrade seats available.

Thanks for the advice! I am aware that you can't enter the AA number on the QF website and vice versa.

Somewhere on these related threads I thought I read that if I book a discount economy QF flight (eg super cheap rede-deal which I think is O class?) on the QF website it seems that I wouldn't earn any AA points (if I tried to attribute that flight to AA).

But then the AA chart mentioned above doesn't indicate this, so perhaps it is not the case.....?

O class on Qantas is valid for mileage earning on AA.

For the normal classes sold for domestic travel ( red-e-deals,super saver,Flexi saver and Fully Flexible ), only N class ( which is the higher price of the 2 red-e-deals is ineligable for miles

Ah.... that's it - I have to avoid QF 'N' class then, thanks Dave.

I will be interested to see what class QF domestic economy flights booked through aa.com tend to fall into. Thanks for the advice!

S or higher

Unfortunately, it appears domestic flights for sale on AA.com have just jumped in price.

They have too - the problem with discussion on a public forum I guess :(
