I was in the Qantas domestic business lounge in Melbourne yesterday. A man and his wife sat a few seats away from me and while she was reading a magazine he was clipping his fingernails. The tell tale clicking sound of nail clippers initially drew my attention to them. I was disgusted and while I let out a "that's gross" that was intended to be subtle and make him reconsider whether his actions were socially appropriate, I didn't do anything more. He kept clipping. I would be interested to hear what are people in this forum deem to be the limit of appropriate behaviour in the QF J Lounge...

I would have said something too. I don't clip my nails in the loungeroom at home and wouldn't do it in a lounge. Go to the bathroom!

Personal hygiene things are not things you do in public full stop, in lounge or otherwise. If his finger nails really needed clipping at that point in time he should have gone into the bathrooms to do it.

It is utterly disgusting & inconsiderate. Surely I would have also said something.

There have been numerous threads about the behaviour and hygiene standards of PAX in Qantas lounges. But this one takes the cake.
Absolutely disgusting and I would reported them and have thrown them out.

Standards are certainly dropping these days, I probably would have said something, unless he was a bikie or something... :)

I have a friend who when he is out and at places and he's in the gents and sees guys walk out without washing their hands he always says something to them, says its resulted in a few tense moments but its one of his pet hates so he lets his feelings be know...

I thought nail clippers weren't allowed through security?

The only issue is the little nail file. I've heard a few stories of them being accepted after breaking it off.

About a year ago (?) when the rules were relaxed and QF dug up their cache of metal knives, nail clippers were specifically removed off the banned list.

Groundhog Day.

This has been mentioned previously, and I am sure it was in the same lounge.

goodness me! this is outrageous. I would have spoken to the lounge manager at once and had him thrown out.

Standards are dropping everywhere; I've seen people clipping toe nails and cleaning their ears with cotton buds on the train. Neither are appropriate anywhere in public, lounge or not.

haven't you had your ears cleaned by a man on a Delhi street?

This is disgusting... my wife would have hit the roof! Can't believe he kept going.

Fingernails or TOE nails?

Toe nails is disgusting as it would require removal of shoes, socks etc

Finger nails is not that bad...

Why not that bad? would you be offended if someone came to your house and clipped their finger nails on your couch? Because that's pretty muh what it is like

Personally I would never do that myself. I dont find it that offensive though, that I would say anything to them. As long as he was being "clean" about it, as in not leaving his clipping all over the couch etc.

I just dont find it as offensive as others I guess.
