l upgraded to a BB Pearl 3G about 3 months ago. In those 3 months, l've had the handset replaced 3 times (with brand new ones), and it looks like number 4 will be on the way soon. Once my contract expires, l will never get a Blackberry again.
Hehe, on the other hand, I've been using a BB 8800 for the last 3 years (work issued), and its practically indestructable. I've actually tried breaking it a couple of times (perhaps not very hard, admittedly) to get an upgrade.

One of the guys at work has a pearl I think - it doesn't have the proper keyboard, right?

How is a move to a pearl an upgrade??? Were you using tin cans tied with string previously???

Donkey, balls, sucks - rearrange to describe my view of the Pearl (which I have used for 18 months :()

That's a bit of a harsh comment considering there is a NEW
BB Pearl 3G that came out about 4 months ago.

The new Pearl has the same keyboard layout and looks to have the same screen size - thus virtually useless to send emails on. Not possible to review documents either. I stand by my harsh (but fair ;)) criticism.

I have actually given my Pearl to one of my team and am working around the lack of email quite effectively (webmail at home and on the train - just not on the walk from the train to the station).

Very fair and accurate assessment from where I am sitting.

My UK colleagues have Pearls and none of them can read attachments and seemed to spend ages messing about when trying to send emails.

I have the Bold 9700 and have been pretty pleased with it. (IPhone for personal use though!! ;))

I can now confirm (typing from this computer in the SYD J Lounge) that the Apple Mac's in the SYD J Lounge are "dual boot". You can choose either Windows 7 or Apple O/S. Serfty, hope that this helps and any other users that prefer Windows over Apple.

There would need to be instructions there for anyone that wants to try that then ;) but that’s the reason the iMac’s were chosen, as you can’t dual boot on a Dell (unless Dell gets coughy again with Psystar or something similar).

You could dual boot windows/linux!! :p Gotta love the latest version of Ubuntu

But I think you’d find more members in the lounge capable of using Windows and OS X than Windows and Linux. Certainly, I think Linux would create more headaches than this thread has caused :p

I found out by accident to be honest.
The computer l am on wouldn't connect to the internet, all the other computers were busy, so l decided to do a reboot. Upon reboot, it came up with the option of either Windows or Apple. I clicked on Windows and still no internet connection. Rebooted again and picked Apple O/S. It works now. Hmm...

LOL.

Either way, good to see it’s a fairly simple process. I’ve always though a key combination had to be pressed when booting to get the option of Windows or OS X. What version of Windows was it?

There is a little piece of software that lets you customise mac boot... rEFIt (google it)

It takes over from having to hold down the option key at startup.

Office for Mac 2008 does a passable impression of office 2007 so document compatibility shouldn't be an issue.
Office for Mac 2011 is a quantum leap from 2008, if anyone's wondering whether to upgrade. Heaps faster and no time spent watching the beach ball at all. :D My advice is to upgrade right away.

+1 we upgraded also. It's an excellent product.

As a bit of an open source zealot, I am compelled to point out that if that's really a problem you can make a Linux GUI look and work incredibly similar to Windows... Of course it won't solve the issues of openoffice vs. office, but still!

How do you get into the CL? I've only been in the SYD CL once when they had network printing issues, the offices were lovely with nice shiny iMacs

What is so hard about using macs? I know I have been using macs for about 5 years now so the line blurs between Macs and PCs but I dont recall major issues in day to day use.

Left click is on the left, right click on the right, double click to launch something.

The biggest issue I find is that the close/maximise application is on the left rather than right...
