Apple Pay is talking about loyalty programs

Apple Pay? I'd be hesitant to trust a company with my money that can't even be trusted not to, for instance, erase music from user's hard drives without permission.

Sure. I look forward to all the reports of...

Um, no.

Unlikely... in fact with the RBA cutting the max interchange fee to 0.8% I think Apple will struggle to get more cards on board.
No-one will want to give away a portion of their smaller pie

Perhaps you should go and read up on how Apple Pay actually works. There's no security risks there. In fact, it's more secure than regular PayWave/PayPass from a technical standpoint.

Now that ANZ is on-board, expect some further capitulation within the banking industry. ANZ said they were astounded at the amount of new Debit card accounts it bought within a week of launch. It's not like the banks are poor or anything.

Security isn't the concern. It is the operator, Apple.

It's part and parcel. Apple are the aquirer here. If you have no security concerns, you have no concerns about Apple. They are simply an intermediary.

Back to the original mention, ApplePay and Loyalty has always been the plan. At launch they talked about it from memory. In a way it's being done on convential cards. The AAdvantage Dining Program works by registering your credit card. Then, simply use that card when you dine and you earn AAdvantage Miles. Unfortunately, in general, AU cards are not able to earn (and there are no restaurants in Australia that are a part of the program that I know of).

Yup - was the main reason I considered (and have now applied for) an ANZ credit card.

Disagree and I'll put money on that by year end a couple if not all majors will be on board.

ANZ has been swamped with applications because of this offering. The other banks have missed the boat on this one.

Cmon Citibank!
