I got a rejection, maybe because I closed three CC's in two years?
Otherwise it could be using the total CC balances as the monthly payment. Should have put $0 not $x,xx_.
Anyone had a second attempt?

I closed more than three CCs in the past two years and have applied for at least 5 cards as well and got approved.

But yeah as I found out above, I think the monthly payment field might've been your problem. They took that amount down as like the 'required' payment I am committed to making each month (i.e. assume that I have an obligation to pay that much every month) which made it sound like I had a huge CC debt.

I didn't get an outright rejection though. Had someone from ANZ call me to clarify this issue and I gave them verbal confirmation of my income (no proof required) and it was approved on the spot.

So if you have received a rejection, you may wish to give them a call to clarify the issue and perhaps you might get a different outcome.

I applied for a basic card with a $1k limit. I got a 'referred' result as well  I am an existing customer with a platinum card. The current limit on that card is $10k and 12 months ago it was at the $30K limit. Maybe my recent investment loan application caused them to reconsider :(

My wife had to go in to the bank for the id check. She started a conversation with the cards person there.

Apparently they have had lots of people apply. It has been a nightmare according to the cards person. So I think they are being very picky on who they approve. Self Employed people are apparently being scrutinised at a higher level.

I received a phone call this afternoon to clarify what my share of the rent was. Conditionally approved over the phone pending a passport verification at any ANZ branch.

I got referred for the lowest card and I asked for 1k limit.... I think it's going to be declined

Got referred on Saturday night, had a call this morning with only verbal confirmation of income and expenses. Then approved over the phone for $6,000 limit on Platinum (salary not high enough for Black). They didn't like that I included my existing ANZ credit card limit (0% balance transfer offer) and balance owing in the application, so she removed them and "refreshed" it.

I'm surprised because in the last 2 weeks I also applied for NAB Velocity and Qantas and was approved for both. I suspect I shouldn't apply for more credit in the near future, but now 70,000 QFF points and 20,000 Velocity for total $130, can't complain.

But now my total credit limits exceed my gross salary. Time for a cleanup when all these points post and balance transfer period ends. Before this forum I was never a points chaser!

Received my cards & welcome pack yesterday, will go into the bank sometime this week to activate.
Proceeding to go through the welcome to see if there's anything i should be concerned about.

They requested income evidence from me, too, but declined to supply a valid email address to which that evidence could be sent. I'm currently waiting on them to get back to me in response to my query. In the meantime, did you email yours? If so, to which address?

Thanks,

mrpooky.

Still waiting...is it time to call them now?

Finished going through my welcome pack, few things of note.

Points

  • No points for government charges (not ATO friendly)
  • Appears to pay points for ultilities, bpay & insurance (will test all of these soon enough)
  • Visa (black) earns 0.75 ppd & Amex (black) earns 1.5 ppd, unlike other banks there appears to be no additional points made for overseas transactions.

Travel

  • Overseas transaction fees are 3% on both the visa and the amex, applicable to any transaction made with an overseas merchant, regardless of the currency, i.e. AUD transactions made overseas will still incur this 3% fee.
  • According to my letter of offer : "Your card is currently exempt from overseas cash advance fees", I have not noted this on any of my previous CC's (CBA, WBC, Citi) Of course you'd still be stung by the 3% currency conversion. Not horrible by comparison, but still not as good as citi plus
  • Travel insurance kicks in after $250 is spent on any prepaid part of the trip (airfare/hotel/cars/other transport) which would be pretty easy to meet.
  • 2 Qantas club passes on request, need to phone the concierge to claim these
  • Enrolment into the veloce program for unlimited lounge access at a number of overseas lounges for the primary and additional card holders. Additional cardholders are free in the first year

Cards themselves

  • Chip & contactless on both cards (unlike westpac's black offering)
  • The level of the visa is not listed anywhere on the card or in any of the documentation. However a BIN/IIN search on the card reveals that it's a platinum level card for the purpose of visa privileges. For the minimum credit limit, i had expected that it'd be a signature.

Thats about everything interesting I noted.

Government charges exemption is across the board. Refers to non-ATO things, rather than normal retail/Tax/rates transactions.

That is not to say that this card is ATO friendly (I think it is, actually), but just that the clause itself does not mean that points are not paid on ATO.

Thank you Jlien for your very good summary. I won't copy and paste it all again, people can read it in your post.

I have just applied for the Platinum and all approved.

Which is exactly when offered choice of paying in Country's home currency or in AUD ALWAYS choose home currency - IMHO of course.

Couldn't agree more Cruiser.

The banks love to take us for a ride. Forex conversion fees are akin to the Australian Tax Payer position, and DCC back into AUD is the same but without lube

Not so. Insurance is activated if you meet all of eligibility criteria, and not just that one point. See below.

This includes not just the $250 spend, but that you must hold a return ticket as well as meeting other criteria.

On the definition of hold, when I rang on my Westpac Card, it was deemed to be a ticket of any type whether plane or boat, and specifically it included award flight redemptions. I assume this ANZ card will be the same, but it would be best to check.

Got into a branch this afternoon for an ID verification. Fingers crossed that my full approval comes through soon.

I can't see the bank wanting to do the ID check if they are not going to give you the card(s)
Milking days ahead

Branch manager was also a little confused, but thought it might be due to the fact that I'm not Australian and they needed to verify residency.

So Gift cards will cover the $1500 required for QFF points?
