ANZ has launched its Black Rewards card

I seriously don't think ANZ Black Rewards is worth it for frequent flyer points. Much better alternatives available. However, if you like DJs vouchers...they are very easy to earn!

It is worth it for the Visa though....

The Visa earn rate here is still slightly better than the Westpac Altitude Black card. Although the ANZ Black AMEX got a coughpy earn rate, compared to the AMEX on the Westpac Altitude Black card. But I do most of my spending on the VISA anyway.

Of course it can't be compared to the Citi Prestige card VISA earn rate, but given my income can't quality for getting the Citibank Prestige card, I won't be complaining anything.

Points are able to be pooled up to three years. Haven't been able to find whether any points cap apply. Westpac also able to send FF points to Enrich.

I just hope ANZ will improve its Black VISA earn rate to $1 per 1 Kris Flyer/Asia Miles, then I am sure plenty of customers would be very happy then.

ANZ Rewards offer 20% bonus transfer for Asia Miles, from July 20 to August 31, surely this can't be ignored.

This is one of the few remaining cards that is Canberra friendly:) I have the fee free (for 1 year) ANZ Black Frequent flyer card that I'm thinking of changing to this card....unless you need to make payments to Canberra, you are better of getting the Westpack Black Altitude card :)

I think the VISA component is still a better earner on this card, than the Westpac Black Altitude card.

I was looking at the T&C of the various insurances included, and it seems that the "Rental Excess Cover" (for domestic Australian car hire) activation condition is quite laxed. E.g. it doesn't require charging anything to the card, not even the rental fee. Am I reading it wrong?

Yes and no, it is for transfer to VA (now 2/1) but not so much to Asia Miles/Krisflyer as its 3/1. For VA it's the best dual card Visa earn on the market!

Hi Guys

Just to be sure, to be sure ( as Paddy said !) ........ the ANZ QFF BLACK VISA Card ( and I assume AMEX) pays points for the ATO. ???
I need to pay a tax bill and was going to pay on the WOWQFF card but only get 1 point per dollar to $ 2,500 then 1/2 point per dollar.
Was going to pay first $ 2,500 on the WOWQFF and then balance on the ANZ Black Visa at 3/4 point per dollar.

All getting to hard !!! maybe that's their cunning plan ??

It doesn't help for CX, but if you convert from ANZ > VA > SQ, it works out to be 0.74 SQ pts/$ which is (as far as I can tell) the highest Visa/MC earn rate for SQ going. Even going direct to SQ at 2/3 = 0.66 pts/$ (although there's no reason to do that) is better than the next best card, being Altitute Black MC converts at 2:1, but only pays 1.25 pts/$ = 0.625 SQ pts/$.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Citi Sig/Presitge that are better, but like Altitude, no Canberra points.

That was my reading when I looked at it a few months ago as well, but I always pay for the rental on the card just to be safe.

Agreed, I believe I have made that exact argument on quite a few threads.

I'm always a bit slow to these parties...

On having another quick look around (I'm trying to get together enough points for a SYD-SIN-HKG return suites ride !) St G/B of SA Signature also appears to give effectively 0.75 SQ/$.

Maybe I just need to suck it up and cop the annual fee on the Citi Prestige if I want those suites!

There is also the Virgin Velocity High Flyer Visa which is 1.25 points per $, but don't think that one is Canberra friendly either.

Being a direct earn card it means you can't take advantage of the usual bonus transfer promotions Velocity run every 6 months of so.

I have just started using my ANZ Rewards Black card...how long after the transaction posts before the reward points appear in your account ? Thanks

For me it's always the day after statement closing date. The bonus points appear on that same date after you hit your spend requirements.
