In a few days Mrs QS checks in for QF12 at TBIT and Miss QS checks in for UA839 at T7

Are there any common terminal at LAX where checkin for these airlines can occur?.

I think there is an bridge and tunnel airside connector between TBIT-T4-T5-T6 then bridge airside between T6-T7-T8?

No common areas between UA and QF. (The TBIT recheck area does have AA and UA counters, not QF).

Note that at TBIT QF check in (all flights) does not open until 6pm.

Both flights do not depart until 2230hrs or later so have booked the hotel until the morning after.
Ah yes - will the TBIT recheck area open in the evening?

BTW *A lounge at TBIT or United Club T7?

The bag drop stays open for all TBIT arrivals. I'm not sure the actual counters are manned all of the time.

I would find it difficult to believe the T7 UA facility is better than the TBIT *A lounge.

Instead of paying for the room overnight most of the airport hotels will have day rates until 17.00hrs then a beer or wine in the hotel bar while they look after your luggage until say 19.00 and take the hotel shuttle to both terminals

True but not all offer day rate and the difference between the one that does and the one that does not was $40. The one that does not has buffet breakfast included, guest coin laundry so evens out.
Other option is to extend checkout from 11am to 3pm which I’ve done before but not guaranteed.

Fair enough....the better your hotel loyalty status the better your chances, if you're gold or plat with any of the majors you can almost guarantee a late check-out till around 4.00pm especially at the closest airport hotels. I've never had a problem.
Personally I don't have a problem with sleeping on the plane so I quite regularly check out of my Long Beach or other hotel at 10.00, go to the Crowne Plaza hotel at LAX, slip the concierge $10 and he will store my luggage until early evening and I go off for the day sightseeing, return late arvo, have some nice drinks and maybe a early dinner and then go off to the airport. As soon as I get on the plane i'll make up my bed and then its good night from me

Haha!!. Well the plan is now this:
1 night stay. Checkout after brekkie. Concierge store bags. Uber to Universal studios. Rides. Dinner there at 1730. Back to hotel by 8pm at latest. Shuttle to airport. One checkin at TBIT then oneworld J lounge, the other at T7 and sneak back to TBIT *A lounge then back to T7
