Anyone landed here?

It's pretty impressive...I used to think the still shots I'd seen might be fakes. There are other videos out there on YT of St Maarten landings but that is one of the better ones. No, haven't been there but it would make an interesting visit! ;)

I landed at SXM back in 2005. To be honest it didnt really feel different from any other over water approach.

Question is, would anyone be brave enough to lie back and look up at the sky as a jumbo practically landed on top of you, or is that tempting fate too much?

I haven't been there, but it's on my to-do list.

I was given a DVD about the airport and area around it that included heaps of approaches by planes like the Britten Norman Trislander, through to the 747s.

Reading the wikipedia article on it, I found this tidbit:

People standing on the beach may also be blown into the water because of the jet blast from aircraft taking off from runway 10.

An additional fence has been added recently behind runway 10 to prevent irresponsible tourists from hanging on to the main fence surrounding the runway to be "blasted" by the aircraft engines' flow.

I can imagine the "blast" could be quite a thrill for some people. The perimeter fence is supposedly 150m from the runway now.

Reminds me of Billy Bob Thornton's character in the movie "Pushing Tin" where he plays an air traffic controller with a penchant for thrillseeking.
