Anyone flying on Christmas Day?

I've previously flown on Xmas day and quite enjoyed it. Of course if you take chocolates as others have mentioned you do make the staff happier.

I know last year the staff at my local J lounge received a large box of chocolates as thanks for their looking after me all year. It was greatly appreciated.

I have flown SYD-LAX for 5 of the past 6 Christmas days on whichever of the QF11 or QF107 they operate (usually they just have the single flight).

100% OpUp rate from Y to Y+ and in 2010 Y+ to J

Love the special menu items in the FLounge, and unlike comments made earlier in this thread, yes some QF flight crew do wear Santa Hats (at one
stage I think it was in '08 or '09 the CSM donned a Santa beard as well).

Both on ground and in air staff seemed to be a lot cheerier, which is always great to see.

As per previous, a nice box of Chocolates or similar goes down a treat in the lounge and onboard (also at check-in)… The little things do matter, and it is obvious such gifts are truly appreciated.

OOL - SYD with Jetstar for first Xmas with Mum and Dad in a while - the roster God finally smiled.
The roster God smiled on my daughter as well! We were expecting to have Christmas without her, but Dr FM is working evening of 24th then flying back to us on the morning of the 25th and then back again on the 26th to work again on the 27th. I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your parents!

My fiancee and I will be flying DPS-PER on Virgin so that she can get back for work on Boxing Day

I think I was a little kid the last time I flew on Christmas Day

We are flying DJ J ADL-SYD (2 for 1 CC deal + bonus comp. upgrades) arriving 09:30 xmas day, then heading to the F Lounge for early lunch. JQ1 at 13:00 to MEL ($49 each) and staying at Hilton South Wharf.

So xmas brekkie in the ADL DJ lounge, lunch in SYD F Lounge, drinks on arrival at MEL J Lounge then canapes and drinks at the HSW Exec. Lounge!

Don't Qantas give our Christmas presents on Christmas Day?

Not in my experience. Might get a reindeer chocolate with the meal but that is about it.

Sent from my GT-I9300T using AustFreqFly

Something special happened to nickn380 last Christmas, hopefully he can chime in telling his story.

24th QF J MEL-SYD-CGK then 25th Malaysia Airlines J CGK-KUL for holiday. Flying 7th or 15th for family get together. Will remember to take some chocolates. It will be a 1st for travelling Xmas day.

Well last year the family and I flew on QF408 to syd and wow did they treat you well!
Apart from the expected x-mas theme going on [cabin and even flight crew dressed for the occasion!], upon collecting our bags, there was many qf employees standing around our baggage carousel - with cameras at the ready - the tubs filled with goodies came out! [images below]

It was all Qantas memorabilia, umbrellas [which I might add I still use every time it rains in Mel :)], etc.

Were the gifts only for people with checked baggage?

Might have to check my bag in instead of just carry-on. :D

On Xmas Day, I have decided to fly SYD-BNE-DRW for the first leg of a DSC JASA status run (and while it is wrong of me, I know, to do a Status Run with a purpose, I am visiting an old friend for Xmas), returning the next day for a total of 200 SC (X2). So really more like a Chrissie pressie for me :). It ended up being easier to get a cheap JASA on Xmas Day, perhaps not surprisingly. Might see some of you in the lounges en route.

I'm flying across New Year's Eve, arriving at about 1am New Year's Day. It's all in the same timezone so I wonder if they'll do anything.

Had a countdown from the First Officer on a new years eve flight.

And I am flying Xmas Day this year!

Flew back overnight on the 24th from HKG-SYD last year.
Started Xmas dinner in The Pier where they had a turkey out with trimmings.

Nothing special on the plane.

Home for quick shower then off to family events.

New Years Eve? Was the red-eye back to MEL from PER.

I spent last New Years on a cruise ship. Much more fun than flying!
