Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with buying AA miles online.
I have been trying to purchase some miles online and each time I get a card declined error, iv purcahsed miles before for myself and mrs euroflyer and there was no problems. I tried 3 cards and each time get the same error, i have a rewards flight on hold that i want to secure. The cards are all valid and i was able to use one of them a few days back to buy some us airways miles

Anyone encounter a similar issue lately or am i a unusual case? i tried ringing and encountered the same thing over the phone with the call centre

Did you use you aussie address?, I believe you need to change billing address to a USA address or even just add a zero in front of your aust post code.

There is a way around this, something like placing your CC address on the second line and El Segundo and it Zip Code on the city and Zip area. Search for El Segundo in the AA forums and you will likely find the answer.

The El Segundo and ZIP code issue related to AA ticket purchasing (not purchase of miles) but that has since been resolved (12+ months ago?).

I have purchased AA miles on-line in the past without cc issues, using my Australian cc. I would be phoning the cc providers ASAP.

yes i had this same problem about 3 weeks ago. seems it was a temporary error.. i tried again after about 2 weeks and it went through ok, didnt have to give any US address or put a leading zero in postcode or anything.. points in my account (with bonus points) after 2 days.

try again, i say..

Is it all fixed now, or is it still unresolved?

Ok I just had a massive issue with buying the 80,000 miles plus bonus I wanted. Basically the transaction went through three times for me! the first time I thought maybe I put the card details in wrong as it said it couldn't process my credit card. second time I though it was a problem with my AMEX so o tired my MC. after 3 times I gave up but it had actually attempted to take the fund from my CCs!
Now i'm trying to get the $8000 released back to my credit cards!

Hmm...how'd it turn out jeremyk? I've just cycled through 3 cards, 5 failed attempts all up, and now seem to have $15k of credit limit eaten up across them! Needless to say I'm on hold to 28 Degrees at the moment, hopefully this isn't a painful week or two ahead

Well I spoke with AA and they helped by sending an email requesting the release of the pending transactions. They messed up the details so CBA rejected the letter. In the end I just had to wait 7-10 days for the transactions to 'fall out' of pending state and the funds just came back into my account.
Pain in the cough, but I got my money back. Pity I missed out on the bonus points :(

Phew! Ok, so no need to panic then. Was it a new account you were using by any chance? I was using one I'd just set up for my sister so it wouldn't get in the way of my mile allowance, but sounds like that was my undoing. Will try again with my own account and see if I have any luck!

*edit: Just tried again with my own AA account and it went through just fine. A shame the 28 Degrees was maxed out, but I'll cop the 3% charge to know it worked. Sister will definitely be pleased.

yeah right, mine was a new account so that must have been the problem.... :(
well at least I am ready for the next promo :)

There's something every month or two, but they're different so may not always be of use (ie. the current 30% discount on sharing miles doesn't help if you need new miles).

Do I need USA AA account? to buy miles when they come up.

I'm not sure about what you mean by needing a "USA" AA account.
You certainly need an AA account, but you don't need to give a US address or anything like that.
