Anyone booked on Tiger Australia yet?

Just curious to see how TT is being recieved on this forum.

Personally I'm planning to be on their first flight, currently TT7402 on November 23 from MEL to OOL, just for the novelty, rather than anything else...

But then again, some of their other deals look pretty good. MEL-PER especially, for $50. Being a Melbourne-based West Coast Eagles fan, might finally get to see a home game...or 11 .

Actually, Stuart has raised a good point.
Next year during the footy season if Tiger is still doing those prices, I am sure there will be heeps of fans flying at $100 return to Perth/Melb or north to GG who would not have been paying the normal red deals that normally are 400 - 500 a return trip.
Maybe the home town advantage the eagles and dockers usually have will be diluted a bit next year..................

Interestingly I recently had to look into a SIN-BKK flight (one of the most competitve LCC routes) on fairly short notice (1-week)

General pricing (with some exceptions)
was:

Air Asia < Jetstar << Tiger
with Air Asia generally slightly cheaper than Jetstar, but Tiger normally most expensive

That Dec 26 - 31 price is interesting because Qantas now quote $276 each way for same period.
However last year I knew of a person who could not get a fare under $450 each wayfor those days on QF and it was 3 months out when they booked.

So QF are re-acting early that is for sure.

Well, derrr , of course the cheapest fares PER-MEL v.v. are selling out …

But even so, $199 one way at Xmas - is actually still a bloody incredible price!

We are witnessing a fight for hearts & minds, and JQ deciding not to match TT on AVV-PER, (after all its recent activity) will do wonders for its position in the West! (Still one flight a day doesn’t make anyone a big supporter. And QF is the real player to PER ever since the demise of Ansett.)

Plus… how y’all, down in Melbourne, feeling at the moment - very special? Santa seems to be handing out heaps of early Chrissie pressies!

Just checked weekend flights mid-March 08. $189. Some weekday flights still at $49 but most creeping up towards or past the $100 mark.

Still v cheap though for MEL-PER.

Actually here's an interesting one regarding the normal TT fare for MEL-PER. Originally Tiger didn't have the fares for dates past 29 March (the end of their sale's fly between period) up on their site.

Price for PER-MEL on March 30: $119.95.

$276 is normal O price for PER-MEL. Still six months out from Xmas, so maybe peoplestill have not firmed up their Xmas plans. I know I don't know which city I will be in.

Man I love being a Melburnian...

I think I've got my TT plans sorted... fly up to OOL on TT 7402 on 23/11 (their first flight), which is currently $99.95 (ie. bloody expensive...), then fly back in the evening on Virgin, who are selling OOL-MEL flights on that day for $79 funnily enough.

Good option for those of you who want to test the TT waters, like myself.

I'd like to see how they do things, especially considering, as I said before, these guys will get most, if not all, of my travel to PER.

(Of course, this is all relative on whether or not this will be their first flight...still waiting on any further route announcements)

Too cheap for Jetstar to match, even flying from AVV as they are.

Is QF, SQ, et al, uping the anti sufficiently to beat these fares? I note that the latter in January you book (with TT), the cheaper the prices are.

Does anyone know how TT's emergency exit seating work? When traveling Melbourne-Darwin-Melbourne with Virgin last Christmas we noted comments from disgruntled pax re emergency row seats that did not recline (i.e. permanantly locked upright!). Is this the situation with TT's emergency row seating?

According to the Seat Selector terms, they may not.

Please note that some emergency exit seats onboard our aircraft cannot be reclined as they would obstruct access to the exit.

When work pays for my ticket I will conntinue to give QF my undying support.
When I travel for personal reasonas I wil weigh up the FF avail and Taxes cost vs what else is avail. ...HMMMM a longweekend visting LST for a MElbournian is good value at these dollars ..agree footy fans wil have agreat time
.Unfort the MELLST flight get in on a Fri after the last BOAGS brewery tour ....very bad lets hope as they expand in aircraft number they need to shift MELLST earlier...let see brewery Fri arvo....wineries Sat pre game...lost weekend after that til flight home on Sun

And Im sure competing airlines will be more aligned once they are up and running.
My travel agent mate rekons most folk don't even consider booking the next Holidays til the previous ones finish.With that in mind some time late OCT looks to be the time when things really heat up for the Xmas holidays

They are doing things pretty much the same way TR do for the international, and certainly I have managed to find the advertised fares when I search.

The strategy though is to advertise cheap fares off in the future, and the closer to the date you book the higher the available fares. No, there is nthing revolutionary about their model, and I imagine they have people stashed away doing 'yield management'.

Now Jetstar are in no position to complain. Given when they have a super low fare you can't find them either. At least you can perform a search on the Tiger website.

TT is nice 'n' simple, a "real deal" maybe... but Jetstar’s tricks are even cleverer… on routes where they have higher frequency, for example Sydney to Gold Coast or Geelong, they only have the “sale” fares available on the first or last flights out/in. So when customers search, they can only see the discount on the flights that don’t suit them… but, then notice that for (e.g.) only 20 bucks more they can get a seat on a flight at a time they like… so they take than one ‘cause they think Jetstar is “the low fare leader”, ...why shop around?

So by offering a discount, when Jetstar knows (i.e. if subpoenaed to produced their modelling, it would show their decision making was based on the fact) that no one is likely to buy - is Jetstar being deceptive?

In addition to this, Jetstar probably offers all the seats on those flights (or at least a good swag of them) at the lower price, so they can claim that they had a large retail quantity available for purchase, but no one wanted to buy them L

Anyway, when Jetstar is saying something of interest it is the voice of AJ, rather than SW, that is used… SW is propaganda, AJ is fact J
