Any reports on success asking for a fee waiver on CBA Diamond?

I have a lot of my banking and insurances with CBA (I know I am not the only one) but they really do not come to the party with fee reductions. I got a free upgrade from the platinum and since September last year I have only put $30k through the card but I thought that it might have counted for something. I guess I will keep the card because I am saving $150 in annual fees but it means that they have another sucker customer *sigh*

Offering a downgrade lower then platinum is just a plain insult I think.

I wouldn't be complaining so much... You have EXTRA benefits above the Platinum card, however you are only paying the Platinum rate rather than the full Diamond rate...

CBA has to pay for the benefits you receive somehow...

I called up today to cancel and was offered 20000 points which equals to $100, I pay $250 annual fee on this card which was offered free upgrade from the platinum. I think $150 is not a bad price to keep this card.

What do you think?

I think you can downgrade to their low fee gold card, that card has no annual fee if you spend more than $10K per year, but of course, no awards points at all.

Thanks - I like the points that come with the card - given how pathetic CBA are with cards and how low my income is low I would really really like to get the Westpac Earth Platinum Credit Card but I won't qualify for that so I will have to settle with what I have got

I don't think WBC is that strict with the income requirement, my colleague ends up with 48k pa and still got approved by its platinum card, actually she added her super into her total income as well.

Even if I were to add on my super I still would not qualify for that card :(

I guess I might have to wait until a few years to come.

I get it free as part of the CBA private banking package.

How old are you if you don't mind I asking? Why do you need a premium card with high annual fee, if I were you I won't bother to get a card with annual fee, you need to spend at least 50K just to cover the annual fee and on top that is your profit, otherwise you are just paying those fees to your bank. BTW, I don't think WBC cards are any better than CBA, because you don't any points for Bpay, but CBA does.

I am 25 - I worked my way up through from a $500 limit on a student to the Diamond within 2 years. I like the features that come with the Diamond but a downgrade is something that has crossed my mind. I don't use the card as much as I once did. What do you think the best cards are?

Massive +1 for you - very nice achievement to get for free, if mine was free heck I would keep it for the rest of my days.

Like many other posters have stated - there are many other cards that offer better earns at a lower rate.

Don't tie yourself down to one provider........

Well, if you don't spend more than 10K a year, forget about rewards card, get a free one. CBA has a low fee card, and no annual fee if you spend 1K a year. I was like you before that just want a rewards card and then later on to redeem something, after I reach 200K points on my diamond card since 2010 until now, I just realised I don't get much from the card, actually most of my points are just paying for the annual fee.

Spend is around 35 to 45k per year.

lol. Maybe paying for someone using the card but getting paid back??

Bingo.

Back on topic lol. Do other financial institutions wave the fees on the higher level cards if you spend over a certain amount per year?

NAB used to but doubt they will keep doing it, at least I did not get for this year and end up with closing the account. NAB's credit card is not competitive, and another thing is what type of rewards are you after?

Just processed my cancellation with CBA - was offered 20K points or an extra 1 point per dollar for next 2 months as incentives to stay, but either way I'm not prepared to pay $250 for another year (acknowledging this is already a discounted annual fee).

I took 20K points which equals to $100, my annual fee is also $250. I think after 20K points offset, $150 is not a bad price to keep the card.

fair enough, each to their own - I don't use the CBA awards points so the 20k points only ends up being 10k QFF

For those of you who are having the Platinum card fee waived.. Would you mind sharing your average yearly spend? I have reached the points cap for the Platinum MC but I need to keep using this card for another benefit. Has anyone had any luck with CBA increasing points caps on an individual basis or would I be better off trying to move to the Diamond card?
