Looking for an F award in mid May to early June to Singapore from Mel/Syd. Any recent experience with QF releasing seats closer to the time there is no avaliability at all. Thanks

Do you mean on request (with status), or just 'out of the blue' for all?

Nearest experience I can relate is a year or so ago I requested a single J seat to be released SYD-xDXB-LHR a month out from flying (no availability on line); it was considered by yield management, but rejected. All previous similar requests from 3-6 months out, have been granted.

Not likely. Transpacific, Japan and Singapore are the three in demand routes.

You could try phoning if you are platinum and they might be able help.

No unfortunately am now a lowly silver so no requests for me. I will just keep watching daily to see whether gives up their seat.

Never seen late release of QF award seats.

Personal experience of cancelling and giving back F,J award seats about 1 month before travel and then looked to see if it reappeared as classic award online but no. QF takes it back and it becomes just another revenue seat.

Maybe check if there's any available in the next few days. If not then the answer is probably no.

Not uncommon for EK to appear on the MEL/SIN route at late notice (within a week or two). At the moment a bit far out for that though.

Surprisingly a QF J award for HND - SYD popped up for a bit over a week out when I was in Tokyo in Feb. I was looking at changing some flghts and just happened to be on the site when I saw it. Can only surmise it had been cancelled and put back in. There had been zero award availability for months. Snapped it up for MrLTL and then I paid for my flight (not silly - I got the double SCs :)). As we had paid for full Y, we received a full refund for the original flight to SYD, so the net cost was pretty cheap.

Would have been very interesting to see the I,D fares at that time

My QFF account shows it as a Business Sale fare (from memory a tad under $3K one way). We needed to change our plans twice after booking a one way Y a couple of weeks before when it was clear we needed to be back in AU earlier than planned. At the time the cheapest J fares were over $3K pp and no award availability. When we decided to change from Y to J, it worked out quite well with the one award and one revenue fare.

I had no idea WP could request international reward seats on Qantas.

For years I’ve only been requesting domestic, as once I asked about an international sector and they simply told me “no, you can’t request international. “

Well when I asked for international seats to be released, they refused all the dates I tried, but then I was wanting to get seats released for a popular route.
