Thanks Cat207 for the TR. The photos were great. Gives a really good idea of the view from the plane. Doubt you saw any ice carving (off the glaciers) then :(

As this was a charter flight, QFF status has no bearing. No points or status credits are earned and seat selection is not possible

If we could earn SCs (& points as a bonus) then we'd consider it. Shame we can't.
But at least I got to live through it with your pics. Thanks for the summary!

Looks liek a great trip Cat207, thanks fro sharing with us all.

Also looks like a great flight to pilot with all thos wing dips, figure 8's etc. I wonder how QF selects which captain gets to fly that route, and if it actually is a prized flight to captain?

Were people generally well behaved and polite?

Also was there any pressure from the people seated in the cheapest middle seats with no rotation to sit at a window at any stage?

Very interesting to see the aerial photos. We have just returned from a trip to Antarctica and it is truly the most amazing place. Pristine, calm, quiet and wholly awe inspiring. We feel very privileged to have been able to go there. And the penguins are the best!

Everyone was exceptionally well behaved, and there was no pressure because everyone from the middle seats was up in the aisles or near the exits, and moving around freely to get the best views.

Finally got the info I was waiting for from Qantas.
The fight was 11,872kms in total, with 1298kms flying over the ice.

Great trip report! I'm definitely thinking seriously about one of these flights now. I'd love to do an Antarctic cruise as well down the track but the flight might be something I could do with my Dad later in the year - he's 76 and pretty spritely but maybe not at those operating temperatures! Might be the only chance he'll get to see Antarctica...
