The harness may be 5 point, but that doesn't mean that it's worn that way all of the time. Most commonly, people undo the middle and upper straps at some point. Others are less trusting.

So end up as a 2 point seatbelt?.

Is there a regulatory minimum about wearing the harness (in any permutation) when seated at the pilot seat?
 
Max altitude during flight prior to windshield failure was less than 10000 feet

Do you have a link to this new information? Flight data shows it was 41 minutes into flight with an altitude of 32000 feet.

Not sure the relevance of a 5 point harness if the pilot wasn't wearing it during the cruise phase of the flight? JB responded to this in post # 14.

The aircraft was at 32,000 feet when the window failed. Not 10,000.

Remember, China uses metric altitudes.

Is there a “metric” switch or selector when required in metric airspaces

Not suggesting pilots were wearing harness in any specific way - found a picture of the harness and put it up that’s all
