Sorry I am sure you get sick of these:oops: but I was hoping I could beg some more of you excellent advice.

My sister and I are soon off to LAX on the QF A380 and as QF NBs we have been patiently waiting till t-7 so we can book our seats. My sister doesn't do long haul well due to motion sickness and had a rotten experience once when a very dunk and loud passenger next to her on a full SIN-LHR flight flung his arms around for nearly the whole trip so she is a bit concerned about where we sit. I know the best choice would have been to pay to sit up the front but the budget just didn't stretch to that unfortunately. I also know as NBs we need to keep expectations low especially in discount Y;). We would really rather it was just the two of us but looking a seatguru the only two seat seem to be the exits now we will probably pay for these if they're still available but I realise a high status passenger may have already nabbed them. She likes a window and I like an aisle and before seatcounter stopped working it was showing plenty of availability in Y so do you think it is worth booking and aisle and a window seat and hoping no one gets put between us or should we not risk it and just book two side by side? According to seatguru there doesn't seem to be much difference between any of the non exit seats but if any one has any recommendations for a particular row and/or letter they are more than welcome. Thanks

As a passenger you can phone QF up and ask if they can allocate you seats at any point, so when T-7 days rolls along, you’ll see the seat choice you made when you phoned, and can change if you like. There’s no need to wait ;)

Both 80A/K would be good seats if you like your legroom, and are window seats, but are so good that they’re generally taken way ahead of time. You could also try 71D for good legroom, as I’m sure you’ve seen on Seat Counter/Guru.

When my husband and I did LAX-SYD last year on the A380 we chose an aisle and window in the same row in the very back section of economy hoping for some additional room, however the flight was full and we ended up having someone in the middle seat between us. Fortunately we found out at checkin, and as the other person hadn't checked in yet, they changed us to window + middle, and gave the random the aisle.

What day of the week is your flight? If you are flying mid week you might be lucky with this strategy if you choose the back section of economy. If it's a weekend then the flight will most likely be quite full and you might need to make a decision as to whether to take the aisle + middle, or window + middle.

We are flying on a Friday both in and out of the US although on the way back we are coming from JFK so will be on a 747 from LAX. That's going to risky isn't it? I wish seatcounter was still working so I could get an idea of how full the flight is now. I also wish the we would sort out who is going to be the government soon so the $ dollar doesn't do a total nose dive.

The 747 has two rows anear the rear where there are only 2 seats on the side blocks (not 3) so that would be an option if those are not already taken. Note that you will generally feel more turbulence, and there will be ore foot traffic and near the rear galley + toilets, but you wont have to deal with strangers climbing over you.

As a WP, is it possible to snag myself a seat in (i) the first couple of rows of a 737 and (ii) the mini-Y cabin on the 767? I understand that around T-80 hours or so more seats are opened up and that's fine. I'm just wondering if I can secure myself one of these otherwise 'allocated' or blocked seats greater than this timeframe.

Generally you have to wait till T-80 for such a gift, and be quick about it, often checking and re-checking to snag a deal. I hear this is where having ExpertFlyer is useful.

I've been row 4/mini-cabin on my last 5 or 6 flights, and I'm only Gold.
