Another one bites the dust, Amex dumped by CBA

Likewise I have all but given up on CBA cards for rewards. I dumped their Amex ages ago for that very reason.
ive had mine since I was a student, and its gone through several reincarnations over its life time,

so it will be ver ysad

So what is everyone moving to? I realise there are threads on here but they seem a little too... rapacious for my lazy bones. Hardly any of my regular spending take Amex, so I need MC/Visa, and I do a chunk of overseas spend but normally use my rewards-free 28Degrees. I just take the QF points as they come from CBA.

I use the Amex Ultimate for domestic purchases @ 1.5 points per dollar and the Westpac Amex for overseas purchases @ 2 points per dollar.

Qantas Platinum MasterCard is good for overseas spend @ 1.5 points per dollar and others like Macquarie or ANZ black for 1 point per dollar domestically.

Churning between all of these for sign on bonuses alternating between my wife and I

I use Amex charge card and the Hilton Macquarie Visa card. Hilton points and the odd free night works OK though not great. (I’m using the free night at the NYC Conrad this weekend)

Thank you all. I'm probably after a single Mastercard/Visa with least bad earning potential. I don't think I can make an Amex work. I'm happy to pony up the equivalent fee as CBA so $400.

Qantas Platinum MasterCard is good

Found it. Looks quite good, the lounge invites are good for Mrs_Gimlet. My overseas card needs to be international exchange fee free, I'm not paying 3%!

Who issues it? Edit: just noticed the mention of overseas earn with using another card domestically.
Citigroup

Thanks all, much clearer and some good steers there. Unfortunately the lounge invites are only useable by the primary cardholder, which is disappointing (as I have lifetime gold anyway). Edit: reading the microprint - yes, they can be transferred

Currently going through the travel insurance conditions on the different cards. It's like getting a mobile phone plan, they don't make comparison easy

Double points for Nov and Dec on the MasterCard landed in my email inbox today. They are trying to keep the m/c in our wallets. Too little, too late for me.

I wonder what our chances would be for a steep annual discount on the basis that we now only half the number of cards we used to have?

Currently in South America and have hit the AMEX pretty hard over the last month but final transaction made last Thursday and everything has now posted.

Sad day as I have had CBA AMEX in my wallet from the day they first offered it. Will use the Westpac AMEX as much as possible for the rest of the trip though I don't think the 2 point per dollar spend will truly compensate for the fee free / better exchange rate the CBA product was offering

Quite right. You would be better off now moving to forex free cards - ie the ING Orange debit card or Citibank's Mastercard Plus debit card (but always choose the credit option when overseas for both cards).

also got this - think it actually makes it OK for a couple of months to direct some traffic through it, but come January no point again.

got a sms saying your CBA AMEX card is dead tonight, please destroy

I will be destroying my MC card in the next few weeks as well

absolutely no reason to keep it

Yep cancelled my card today.

Asked for fee reduction. No can do due to royal commission

Asked for bonus points. No can do.

Told them ive had this card since the dawn of time.
Nothing can be done

Very sad but happy to reduce my credit limit exposure

Makes it sound like the money that the CBA had to pay back to customers has made them so poor they can't afford to reduce their credit card fees.

I'm on the lookout for a replacement card to the CBA Diamond too.

who knows whether they know the exodus of customers has started, or they dont care, or its not their core business etc .etc.

Yep, now that 1 Nov has come and gone I'm just about to free up $50k in credit. I'm sorted with Amex / RewardPay / BOQ (visa) at the moment, and very happy with the results.
