Hey guys,

Going to arrive from VIE to LHR in T3. Then T5 to GLA. All BA, on the same ticket.

Do I need to get my luggage in T3 then check in again in T5?

Or it will get checked through.

The reason i ask is because the person travelling with us is doing this flight. Would be good to be able to hang around in T3 with us in F lounge before moving onto T5. But if she needs to collect in T3 and check in in T5, then she obviously can't hang around T3.

Plan B, if above holds true, would there be a luggage holding service? e.g. I go out to get her luggage then re enter T3 (which will take ages).

Thanks for your experience :)

My memory from a couple of years ago is that at LHR your international luggage will be checked through to the destination airport IF that airport is an international airport and so has Customs staff. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that).

This is unlike the USA where your bags must be retrieved when you pass through customs at your first entry to the USA, regardless of your final destination, even if your next flight is to Canada.

The luggage will be checked through. The difficulty may be getting through Flight Connections T3-T3 without an outgoing T3 BP

oh shoot, so there is a rule against that? because my friend will have a T5 outgoing BP. I don't suppose there are any lounges before going through flight connections then?

Damn, didn't think about that.....

umm maybe the arrivals lounge... *shrugs*

Lounges are airside past conformance. It's not technically supposed to be possible but anecdotally I have heard of pax accessing the T3 departures area via Flight Connections without an onwards BP for T3 after landing ( to shop rather than lounge though ;) )
I have no idea how your friend would get a transfer from here though to T5 it all sounds too hard :(

I guess my plans will be
1. Try T3 as we all land in T3, and if she can go through flight connections then thats sweet. BTW flight connections, is this a specific security station for connections or If someone walked into T3 off the streets, it will converge onto the same location? I wonder if its specifically for connections, whether they will look at your boarding pass or not? I read that pre 9/11 it was always fine. But since, they have clamped down. I imagine getting into T3 is the problem, but getting out of T3 and getting a terminal shuttle to T5 shouldn't be too hard? just time consuming, which she had to do anyway....

2. If 1 doesn't work, then i guess arrivals lounge, but from what i read, OWE can not guest anyway. I just hope two of us in F + OWE status may help? I dunno. The lounge didn't look that great on pictures, and neither did the breakfast. ....

3. Find some restaurant to sit in outside security for 3 hours......

'sigh'........

*** NVM, not possible. Conformance is supposedly in full swing so no chance. Makes me nervous about going out to landside now as well........ sigh.. ****

actually, please correct me if this is wrong,

I just read that the structure of the security section at T3 going to airside would be security first then the airline desks behind the security.

Is the structure still the same? if so, this suggests that a BP is not checked or required to get through security in T3, as you can then go to the counter to get your BP.

But the post was from 2009 so not sure if things have changed..... i doubt it as it's an old terminal etc.

And Conformance is functional for flight connections or just normal check in from land side to air side?
