We have been using a 12 month policy from CoverMore for all our Travel
Insurance for the last 4 years, but now that I have joined the heady heights of Gold membership of the forum, I am looking at Columbia for our insurance.
I am guessing that Columbia is there because they look after everyone's needs, but I thought I'd ask the question before paying them and changing from Covermore.
Reality is that we have had minimal claims over the years, so I have no issues with Covermore, but if others have some feedback, I would certainly appreciate it.

I am currently researching this very topic.
I happened to speak to my Insurance broker this week and told him that I was joining Hertz #1 Club Gold and there was a couple of sections hat referred to the Insurance options. I was told that the QBE Travel Policy ( Annual Multi-Trip aust and International) covered car rental insurance.
QBE is not exactly cheap, but as we use them exclusively, its worth paying the extra Premium for the service I receive from the broker.

Has anyone had to claim on car rental via their Annual Travel Policy?

Be very careful about Columbus travel insurance. They have very limited coverage on delayed luggage. See this thread for more details.

Travel Insurance Direct annual travel insurance also covers car rental insurance and is much cheaper that QBE. I am receiving regular emails from them offering 10% discount.

Yes I am with TID as well with an annual policy.

Had to claim recently and service and assistance was excellent.

TIP: Do a Google search for promo/discount codes before signing up as they are often about and it will say you 10-20%.

I am thumbs up with TID ... ! :)

I was covered by "1cover" until this year. The premium increased by 50% for the annual multi trip policy.

I changed to Travel Insurance Direct - TID.

But be aware - TID have a shorter length of cover - 39 days for personal travel and 90 days for business cover.

So not only check for what the cover is, also does the length of cover suit you?

The single rate of cover also covers your travelling companion. I had to take a higher premium as even though I travel more than my husband, he is older.

My husband is joining me on a 4 week trip, but staying an extra five days, so we had to take out a five day policy to cover this.

Fortunately I have never had to make a claim on either.

Do you or anyone that knows of any annual multitrip cover that covers more than 90 days for business travel? I still seems to be unable to find one!:(

I am now out of OZ for more than 90 days for business and travelling effectively without insurance!!

At travel.com.au I filled out an Annual Multi Trip quote with QBE and came out at $800 less 30% discount Nett $540. In the T&C section I notice that they have a section

"Trip Extensions
If
you wish to extend your trip you can only do so before the current policy expires. An extension may not be
available if there is a claim made or pending or
you suffer from an existing medical condition or you have seen a
medical or dental practitioner. If
you wish to extend your trip please contact our Authorised Representative or us.

Trip extensions post departure are subject to Service Fees."

Will phone them next week ask what it would cost to extend the length of the trip.

I really wish TID would extend their Annual Frequent Traveller policy to 6 weeks or 2 months as the current policy is for "All Trips under 38 days for leisure".

I had to take out a QBE policy for this reason. (You can get 33% off the policy if you do a google search).

Having said that, I had an accident while in Japan last year and had to have hospital treatment and the service from QBE Australia via phone was exceptional. I was asked if I was ok to pay the bills at the time and when I returned home was reimbursed promptly. However the exchange rate QBE used was miserable. I even sent in my Wizard statements and mentioned the RBA rate of the day but they wouldn't budge.

MAX_1,

Great to know. Will wait for the results of your phone call. Many thanks!

Phoned QBE today and the consultant said that whenever your trip is going to be longer than the cover time, then to request an extension and there "may" be a charge.

I also asked how come TID can sell me the same policy using a promotional code 33% cheaper and why QBE does not offer same deal.
Answer: Duhhhhhhh

Now my broker will be put to the test.

I have had a TID policy for the last year and it is up for renewal in Feb. I think I will have to change as they do not seem to cover industrial action for flights. I have a trip to Uk in March where the routing is via HKG to LHR on BA. I have been reading and it appears the strike vote closes on 22.2.10 with possible action from 1.3.10 . My trip is all reward flights and the dates are fairly set in stone due to work. Does anyone no a policy that covers industrial action for flights? We are 3 in number flying J so the cover needs to be good
Cheers

MAX_1,

Thanks for the info.

I will ring them and ask for more info on "request for an extension" when I get back to Sydney.

Cheers,
Ric

does anyone have a discount code for TID to get me 30% off??????
I've never arranged my travel insurance through our broker - might run it by her and see what she says.

Well, I am not going to recommend Columbus, being that my one and only travel claim, ever, was rejected (see post 4 above).(hmmmm. still need to get around to challenging that decision)

I will be looking at someone new this year for renewal. My partner currently has QBE issued through Citibank (30% discount, I think), and the one and only claim was dealt with quickly and without question.

If you find a 30% discount code for Travel Insurance Direct please send me a PM.

I have a 10% off discount code for TID which is still valid. IT brings an annual policy down from $354 to $318.60. I also pay the $25 surcharge to reduce the $100 excess down to ZERO....

Has anyone had to claim on car rental via their Annual Travel Policy?

In the last 5 years of frequent travel have only had one claim on an insurance policy - and that was the LAST time I used that company. They tried to get around every obligation.

Then switched to Amex Global Cover - not near my policy atm but yes, they do cover car rental, and they (from memory) allow for long trips out of the country - I've been away for 5-6 weeks at a time and had looked to see if I was covered. On last look they were about $750 for a family - have felt quite good. :)

I found it under www.travel.com.au Select the Insurance TAB and then select Annual Multi Trip Travel Plans

While it may be 30% off I don't think that is a TID policy and at $560 after the 30% it is way above what I paid via the TID site and is also more than full price there..ie just looked and 12 months was $354!!!!

I cannot recall seeing a 30% promo code for TD.

TIDESCAPE may be a current 10% code...as may beTIDXMAS2009.
