Options HBA-CHC-HBA on Qantas, other than for a 6am departure ex CHC on 7th March, is $600 more expensive in J than what I booked in July, even with so-called sale and saver fares. So even with a movie voucher, might be expensive to get extra DSCs.

Look at one ways fares. Ex CHC the fares can be very different to the inbound of a AU-NZ-AU return fare. Ex NZ is paid in NZ$ so may have cc forex fees (depending on your method of payment).
I very rarely fly MEL-CHC on a return (ex AU) fare.

I normally don't commit until tickets purchased. However I am close to 100% pitching up and since there is a potential cap my FOMO kicks in so consider me attending!
