Amusing QF baggage policy in SMH

I like my lounge access too much :)

LOL I should have said - Just ask to be downgraded to PS for the purpose of checking baggage in. I do wonder what would happen if some says this to a check-in agent. Love to see the reaction :)

Folk have been getting caught out by this since the policy was introduced last year. Example:

I was caught between options today - Gold and Qantas Club

One bag, 28 kgm

As a Qantas Club member that is within allowance

As a Gold FF it is over the 23 kg limit for each of two bags

Ended up being charged $20

Not happy. The check in staff were also confused.

I have emailed Qantas re the anomaly / contradiction / inconsistency and await their reply

Has anyone else had this problem?

In my case it appears that I am actually penalized for being Gold vs ordinary Q Club member.

The silly extra baggage thing still exists. You can buy an extra bag but depending on status, the weight of that extra bag varies

  • Non-Frequent Flyers, Bronze and Gold Frequent Flyers travelling in Economy - 23kg per piece.
If your bag is over this weight (up to 32kg) a Heavy Charge will apply at the airport.
  • Platinum, Silver Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members travelling in Economy - 32kg per piece.

Surely the bean counters who are all about efficiency and minimising costs would know that there would be more time saving benefit with the baggage handlers if SG's are encouraged to take one bag that is a bit heavier?

Actually a good bean counter is about driving shareholder value rather focussing on one driver of value.

They'd have a fight on their hands if they tried that with me - while I'm SG I still have unused QP membership still to run if, heaven for it, I ever slipped down the ladder
Therefore I would expect them to deliver the nene fits of my paid membership

Surely thry'll have to fix this one? - it's so stupid as it stands

I booked a trip MEL-BNE in J a while ago. Got confused as to what the baggage allowance was at the time, went and checked it today and found that it's been clarified, and we get no extra allowance for being SGs!

Colour me peeved.

We're taking a full marine biology lab along - a large Pelican case full of photographic gear, a microscope, petri dishes, dissecting gear, preserving jars, collecting equipment, reference books.... It's going to be interesting to fit all that into only 4 bags.
