Amusing QF baggage policy in SMH

i was in hysterics reading this articlethis morning

Something similar happened to a colleague of mine. She went on a business trip. On the way there, she was silver then turned gold for the return flight. Being a work trip, she didn't care about excess baggage charges as it would just go on the corporate cc, but the agent said that she didn't want to process the charge.

If that's true, QF need to stop talking about DJ/VA and have a good hard look at themselves in the mirror.

Never underestimate the stupidity of bureaucracy.

And they wonder why they keep getting a bad rap!! Whoever makes these ridiculous rules should be a passenger sometime and experience the rubbish they are laying on!!

god I am happy I am WP it makes life so much easier now that I am looking at those tables, not that I usually check anything in but still. This week to AKL I did have a 10kg bag with suits but that is it.

Hilariously stupid. This is what happens when you let bean counters have the biggest say. This will be the 'optimum' point inte luggage table, without actually thinking of the practicalities of it.

Well written piece, hopefully RedRoo is reading it as well and QF does something about changing that nonsensical policy

Well written piece and factually correct.

Maybe Gold should be 2x23kg OR 1x32kg
ie ability to fall back to the QC allowance.

Or just what other airlines do. Total allowance of 2x23kg, where no one single bag can be over 32kg.

Heaven forbid anyone other than an accountant has ever looked at this. I expect an accountant in finance just redrafted the policy and issued it with no discussion with operations...

The belief hat everything is decided by accountants is both hilarious and a little ignorant.

Oh and for the record it is a ridiculous policy - but if anyone wants to push it they could print their QF SG benefits which include membership of the QP...

Comment was tongue in cheek. I am definitely not ignorant. I just find all the chopping and changing of the baggage policies to not actually be achieving much in the end. And I do believe that Qantas often seems ignorant of the market they are working and what consumers want, but I openly say I have no idea of what happens behind the scenes.

Surely the bean counters who are all about efficiency and minimising costs would know that there would be more time saving benefit with the baggage handlers if SG's are encouraged to take one bag that is a bit heavier?

Although that conversation is most likely not to occur that often.

There must be hundreds/thousands? Of SG's who are forced to take 2 bags because they can't fit into 23kgs? Which would encourage them to take more than they really need (to fill the second bag up!) Thus taking more weight and costing QANTAS more?

Yes those costs may be minimal?? (Although AJ is a man of cutting any cost possible?) But come on RedRoo please take note of this! and hopefully the wording can be adjusted ASAP!

I will be travelling OS early next year with snowboards and all my snow gear, I will take one bag if the ruling changes? But if not then i will be forced to take two bags and will make sure i fill them both to 23kg each! When really i could suffice with 24kgs in one bag.... ;) ;)

end rant

gogo

On my way to WP, I passed through the dreaded Gold baggage black hole. Most times my bag was 23-25kg. All but one time the check-in agent said I was naughty but waived the excess baggage fee. However, once they pushed the point and made me pay the $20.

Knowing what I do now, I would simply have refused to pay and I implore other SG in this position to do the same. The argument is on the basis that being Gold, I am a Qantas Club member, and therefore entitled to 1x32kg.

Furthermore, I cannot find anything on the website or Conditions of Carriage or FF T&C's or Club T&C's that says one allowance take precedence over another in the case of a conflict, only that they the allowances are not coughulative.
