Hi All

Just wanted to check something with the $450 travel voucher. I’ve checked the flight I want to use the credit on and it has business reward seats available. My plan is to book through Amex travel and then upgrade to business via the Qantas site with points. I’m only bronze so wanted to check if the business upgrade would be automatic if I requested it and paid the points. The plan is to do this for myself and wife as well and hopefully sit together. Like to hear from anyone who has successfully achieved this.

Should be fine if it is domestic economy and there's enough seats for both of you in business. However don't apply for the upgrade until it's ticketed (can be half an hour from booking). If you do it may get stuck and not process without manual intervention

Also just to clarify I have upgraded the free amex flight (when it was a free flight, not a travel credit) twice in the past with no issues, scenario as you have described. Booked my wife into U, redeemed a cash fare myself into O or S or T or something, and upgraded with points to U.

Just booked a Qantas flight using the $450 travel voucher and it won't allow me to upgrade the economy to business using points. I can see the flight in my bookings and it says fare type not eligible for upgrade.

I have only just checked it 5 minutes after booking and did read the following conditions of the red- edeal fare which states it is possible. I'll check again in a little while and see if it has changed.

1. FREQUENT FLYER UPGRADE CATEGORY IS DISCOUNT ECONOMY - Available for an additional charge
2. POINT UPGRADE ALLOWED TO PREMIUM ECONOMY OR BUSINESS CLASS. PREMIUM ECONOMY ON SELECTED FLIGHTS ONLY - Available for an additional charge
