regarding eligibility, what if one is a supp card older of a stand alone amex card? does that count?

You should still be eligible for the points; both when referred and when signing up without a referral.
Only have experience with the former but not the latter however.

Apparently it depends on the credit card of the referrer. You can get 15000 points if he's got the Platinum or Gold or 10000 points if his card Green Charge.

If that is the case I have Plat Edge if you require a referal.

As Beta4Me pointed above, points should post once you spend more than $500 within the first 2 month of your activation.
