AMEX platinum charge - Marco Polo Gold

Is this 20 flights thing official?

I got a letter saying that I just need 30k miles by Nov 2014 to requalify MPO GL which seems much easier than 20 flights.

Although I might be in a special boat because I started this period off as a fake DM (Centurion) which was supposed to be valid until around mid way 2014 before I downgraded to the Plat charge and they also downgraded me in MPO while extending the expiry until Nov 2014.

To answer my own question, I of course forgot about the 30k miles AND/OR 20 club sectors... I am an idiot.

Although to my defense, the 80 club sectors for DM has always been a stretch target compared to the 120k miles renewal requirement as a person residing in AU.

Thanks. Mine expires end of feb 2014 so you think they will extend mine until dec 2014?

My DM card was still valid until May 2014 but they downgraded me to GO and extended it to Nov 2014 (note I ditched Cent as explained before) so I think you have a good chance at an extension.

I think my switchover happened during Nov 2013 though so YMMV.

Got my new card in the mail today with a 12/2014 expiry.

The letter states:
"...and we are delighted to renew it for another year. This is an exclusive benefit offered to you as a Platinum Cardmember."

However, nothing in there mention this is the last freebie they will hand out or what club sectors/mileage I need to rack up in order to requalify next year. Will post a pic of the letter in just a tick.

EDIT: here's the letter I've got and no mentions of the 20 flights re-qualify either

Thanks for the info and attaching a copy of the letter. Is this the first time you've been auto-renewed? I'm wondering if they have added the sector/mileage requirements only for those that have been auto-renewed more than once... :?:

Yep my first auto-renew at the end of the year. Haven't actually fly with them either, just made a redemption booking through AM but didn't eventuate (couldn't get the return flight confirmed).

No auto renew here... I only applied for mine in July last year...

I got a second auto-renew, and now the 6 month extension both after shutting my Plat Charge card down (with zero CX flying)

First year of Marco Polo Gold here. Received september 2013 expires Sept 2014. No letter received here regarding any changes as yet.

By this October I'll have been Gold for three years.

Data point. MPG valid to Jan 2014. So far received nothing at all.

I am expecting that this will show up soon as a regular renewal for 12 months.

What I am expecting is that all those with a few months to go have been extended early, and given the new conditions, giving them time to make the requal. Those that don't need the extra time added, are being kept in the dark as long as possible. Some time soon (March would seem likely from what has been reported) everybody who has not been given the "letter" with an extended date already, will simply be told that their current expiry date will trigger the reassessment according to these terms. They will all have at least 9 or 10 months to make it.

I could be wrong, and January renewals won't get a full 12 months, but I would have expected the "extra" and letter to have arrived by now if they were going to treat them differently to the December renewals.

Wondering if any more letters have been received regarding changes to Marco Polo. Still no letter here.

Haven't checked the post box for a few days, but nothing shown up so far in the mail, but online statement (at 6 Feb) shows status as Gold until 31/01/2015. Renewal criteria showing full standard requirement (but it always displayed that in the past anyway).

I am not sure where you can see your status expiry date online anywhere other than in the statement, but am fairly confident that my expectations as originally stated are still on the money.

Yes, am starting to think you're right. I haven't received a letter and my expiry is 31/08/2014. There's still time to receive it if they are giving six months' notice.

The renewal has arrived. 12 months to end of January 2015. Just a standard "Welcome to another 12 months" just like last year - no mention of requalification criteria being changed / introduced. If it we not for AFF, then you would assume no changes.

Will wait and see when (or if) a letter arrives about needing to requalify.
