Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Not sure how everybody else has gotten on but calling the AMEX platinum helpline after being offerred downgraded cards, I was offerred 1000 points

I think even the agent was a bit suprised at it - could just be me but I think with the coming changes they know many will try it and will see who blinks first

So I finally went to cancel the platinum charge card as I wasn't using it:

120,000 points if I keep the card open until January 2026. No spend criteria (I asked given it was a timeline to keep open)

Just my rant though: hate it when they offer this to those who dont use the card while the computer says NO to the ones who do.

Penalise the ones who tranact on the card and make amex money while the free loaders get the benefits. Go figure..

I called up on the platinum line, but it diverted me to the centurion menu as it's the same mobile number. I told the computer I wanted to cancel card and it put me through to an appropriate person.

Is this a complimentary Plat card through your Centurion? Or you pay a separate AF for it?
