Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

QBR Amex, 2 year renewal is coming up. Guy tried to tell me about the benefits of the card 😂
He offered 50k, I asked for more but that was all he could give.
One year later, forgot about this and only noticed after the annual fee was charged.
Called and got offered 40k QBR points. Asked for more, but that was the maximum.
Accepted it. Said it will be in my account within 24-48 hours. :D

Zing! Solid outcome. Wait pardon my naivety what is a QBR (Qantas ... Businesss rewards? Are these QFF adjacent?)

Without looking closely this suggests the law is different for business vs personal CCs!

Quite categorically Amex said that they're just applying this whole "nope" for retention bonuses across the board now. This is amex-amex and not co-branded amex tho
The post just above (#2821) would suggest this is not totally true. Despite the Qantas branding it’s still an Amex issued card!

Yeah 100%. Seems that the data is still a bit all over the shop, but for the charge card it appears retention is donezo. You might have had a unique experience due to being a business card holder - I'm not sure if there's any Amex Charge business card holders in here, but would love to see whether or not they have the same experience.

The data points go on!

Interestingly it comes up in my online activity as "Once Only Valued Customer Loyalty Bonus"

Anyone else with a similar description? Or says something else totally different?

bonus points, retention bonuses are well and truely over for my AMEX Velocity Platinum, over the years i have reiceived a total aprox 250k after calling every 1-2 years.

straight cancel with no option to reopen, will wait out 18 months before reapplying.

They used to offer to let me downgrade to the fee free card then reliably a few months later there’d be an offer for the Velocity Amex. I probably did this 4 times, from memory offers were 30/40k.

After the deval.... I expect y'all will be fast tracking your real cancellations?
Not yet, cash value of the card benefits still exceeds annual fee in my case. The cessation of the Amazon Prime credit eats into the cost benefit equation though. So it all depends on personal circumstances

Or rather, i expect everyone will be having a crack to see if they can syphon some points out of our friends by threatnening to cancel (Got me 150k points last time when they devalued SQ)

I just cancelled and completely different to the last time I called a couple years ago. No questions about why I wanted to cancel. No acknowledgment of number of years with Amex. Just processed and is there anything else I can help you with? lol its totally over and also Amex are going to loose a lot of customers who may never return now - big mistake IMO

Will return in 18months & 1 day.
