Possibly although people have reported rejection of this strategy on Charge Cards recently. It could potentially be combination of both too.
Quite categorically Amex said that they're just applying this whole "nope" for retention bonuses across the board now. This is amex-amex and not co-branded amex tho
The post just above (#2821) would suggest this is not totally true. Despite the Qantas branding it’s still an Amex issued card!
