Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Phone call took 2 minutes.
Nothing offered. Didn't ask.
Card closed.
1m spend over two years.
It looks like they don't value our business anymore.
With this sort of treatment and with benefits evaporating, I would not be surprised if a lot of people here start looking for other options where people like us would feel valued and respected.

not many other options around from what I can see
and i think they know that, hence this nonchalant attitude
 
This is for the Amex Platinum Charge.

I posted this in the Platinum Benefits thread but it's also relevant for here as well:

My annual fee posted a week ago so I just called up. Mentioned to the operator that I'd like to cancel because of the recent announcement regarding the removal of the Platinum Concierge and could they offer anything like bonus MR points if I kept the card. She confirmed with me by asking the question "So you're wanting to cancel today?" I answered yes and was immediately offered 100,000 MR points to stay which I accepted.

Quite unexpected for the charge I guess. I was thinking to upgrade to the charge from my Explorer, which is cost neutral and low on good reasons to keep, but seems the charge is heading that way too.
 
Got offered 200k to stay on my Plat Charge - a few months into the new billing year about maybe 15-20k monthly spend. Cited the concierge removal and replacement with a less useful app as the thing that drove me over the edge. First time doing this and genuinely annoyed about the whittling away of benefits on this card.

I have preferred not to churn with Amex but with the direction the platinum card's going in it will end up being better not to hold it.

Im considering calling them and doing the same thing and see what they offer?

I want to do the same, im really considering this as I have a similar personal monthly spend
 
Another data point:
Plat Charge, had the card for 2 years with maybe $3-4k spend per month, annual fee charged last week. Called around 3pm AEDT today, sounded like it was answered in the Philippines. Selected 'Card cancellations' from the voice menu, and advised operator I wanted to cancel the card as AF charged last week, less benefits now (eg. KF and concierge), etc. She asked me to confirm if I wanted to cancel the card due to having less benefits, which I confirmed I did. She asked if I made use of the other benefits, which I said I had but am now paying the same fee for less benefits. I asked if they could discount the AF due to less benefits now. She didn't answer that, but straight away offered 70k points if I kept the card open, which I accepted.

Obviously others have had higher but others nothing at all, and I don't put a heap of spend on mine, so overall quite happy.

Do you know if this was the AU call centre or oversees?
 
Annual fee hit the charge card a few days ago. Just called, outlined all the devaluations and offered a big fat nothing :( I'm not exactly a massive spender but definitely spent more on the card in the last 12 months that I usually do.

Suspect I got through to Australia but the agent had an American accent.
