Were they going to upgrade your credit card as well - I understoon that if you had the platinum charge card, you got a platinum credit card as well. While not $900 worth, the reason I changed from a free gold card to a pay a fee platinum (credit) card was the free flight that was bundled in.
No such offer. I was offered the platinum charge card and the letter stated I got to keep my Gold credit card.

The free flight is good value if you live in Perth.

This makes me wonder why they offered you a charge card :) Unless they are planning to hit you for 'liquidated damages' when you don't pay up on time
Possibly. Don't know their motive. Even though I have outstanding balance I have always paid more than the required amount well before due date.

I thought the platinum credit card was complimentary with the platinum charge card. And you need the platinum cc to get the free flight. Seems odd to leave you with a gold card - but I guess it saves them a free flight :)

Seems obvious it is just trying to extract more fees from you :)

P.S. And slightly back on topic; what happened to the 20,000 point offer thread (the one with fee-free 1st year) expiring 30 Nov 06? Is it just me or was this thread removed from this (public) forum? I have already applied under the offer, but have lost the details of the link. I wanted to print out details of the offer for safe keeping. ;)

Just an update - still haven't got the original 10k points.

GRRRRRRRRRR

I just recieved my card in the mail today after applying via the link provided earlier for the 20,000 points. This is the link:
Qantas Frequent Flyer

I recieved the card in the mail today. Was supposed to be free for the first year, plus recieve 12,500 + 5000 + 2,500 points. The contract says I only recieve 5000 + 2500 points, AND that $195 is payable for the first year. This is totally different to what I applied for, and its not the first time Amex has done this to me. Has anyone else recieved theirs ? Did you have similar conditions in the contract ?
I just rang up Amex, but the indian guy said that the card that I applied for wasn't free for the first year. That's complete bollocks. The cancellation department closes at 7pm, so I just missed them.
Anyone else have similar experience ?

Cheers,
Lukasz

Very good idea, especially if they pull out their usual stunt like they just did to me.

The link does mention that annual fee is waived in first year. Just check with Amex what promotion code was used with your application and why?

You should receive the full 20,000 points after your first purchase with QF and it would take 8-12 weeks to receive the additional 12,500 points.

^ Offer as stated is only valid for applications made for the Qantas American Express Premium Card via this online promotion only. You must apply from this page to receive the offer. Please allow 8-12 weeks after first Card spend for the additional 12,500 Qantas Frequent Flyer points to be credited to your account.

Looks like we're in the same boat. My contract also says a $195 fee for the first year applies... I wouldn't panic though. Just keep a reference of the offer, as you have concurred.

Rest assured I am watching my online activity like a hawke. So far so good. If I see evidence of a $195 fee hitting my account, you can bet your Status Credits I'll be pressing my speed dial faster than you can say "Department of Consumer Affairs"! :D

I was actually thinking of contacting Amex directly before activating the card to sort this one out. Have you tried calling them about it?

Who do you check it with ? I rang up Amex, and the guy from Calcutta said that my application was not for the card with the first year fee waived. I don't think people at his level are capable of actually doing anything, and I've found you're only taken seriously once you call the "cancel my card" number.

They should be able to tell you which website was used to apply for the card as each promotion would have a unique code attached to it just like targetted promotions received through the mail.

If the call centre person cannot provide this information then I would ask for a supervisor. I have been patched through to Brisbane on many occassions when India or the Philippines have not been able to provide adequate answers.

Hmm, just applying via the provided link - which then redirects to:

https://www66.americanexpress.com/e...QFFSolus20FYF&PSKU=MCA&XSOURCECODE=6X98684001

Which then gives the message:
"Sorry, the American Express® online application is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

Prolly just a server glitch, but the plot does thicken...
Still trying to work out if it's worth bothering for what essentially is just a free(ish) oneway to Perth. Two QP vouchers could be handy though.

I was able to apply at around 9:00pm without any hassles. I mainly did it for the 5.99% balance transfer for the life of the balance transfer. The 20,000 FF points would be a bonus. The 2 complimentary invitations could come in handy as well.

Just rang them up. Must be still night time in Calcutta, and they don't have a night shift, because someone from Australia picked up the phone. She wasn't aware of any such offer, but gave me her name and extension number, and said to keep proof of the offer, and if I get charged, to call back, show them the proof, and they will refund the fee.

Maybe someone at QF just made the offer up  .

Oh, it's not April 1, ignore this post.
