I think I read up thread that using a visa for the temporary security charge on check in has triggered it for some who then went on to use their Amex for the statement credit.

Let us know how you go, I'm in a DT next Wednesday and plan to try it out

I think i'll just try part payment on Visa.

Admittedly I had 3 stays at Hilton in China last week and Visa payments haven't posted so there is going to be a fight on my hands there.

You have used all of your $150 off $300 spends?

No, misunderstanding I think. This promo is only valid for Australia Hilton/DT so haven't used these but was in China last week and trying to take advantage of the 3xPoints/Visa payment promos.

Sorry if this has already been asked but:
- Can I pay advanced purchase for a stay in April 2017 on my account (Diamond, but I don't own an AMEX), with my partner's AMEX?

I don't think the account differences matter. I paid for an advanced purchase rate and got the credit, so I would think it would work for you. Having said that, the T&Cs exclude it.

As Lisa10 has written, the Ts&Cs exclude it. Many have been successful with almost what you suggest. The difference is they are using prepaid but staying within the promo period. You're hoping to use a pre-purchase and stay outside the promo period, which I'd think you'd have no hope. YMMV though, as there is a difference in the headline wording and the Ts&Cs wording. I also note they seem to have corrected the discrepancy between whether the spend must be in one transaction or multiple (in our favour BTW). Here is the particular conditions with my bolding of the relevant parts which are different to each other ...

Save the offer to your Card, book directly with Hilton in Australia only, spend $300 or more, in one or more transactions, upon checkout and for stays completed by 31/1/17 to receive one $150 credit.

The amount shown when booking doesn't include the 1.5% surcharge? My total is just under 300 at $299.40 as shown in the booking confirmation. Will the surcharge bring me over and trigger the credit?

I should mention it's a flash sale booking so prepaid. Called up and was told credit card surcharge is not applied on prepaid bookings. I will need to spend some money somewhere in the hotel to get it up to $300.
Also at the end of my call I was offered 500 hilton points to listen to a promotion they had. Some hotel deal in Orlando, didn't take them up on it but still got my 500 points instantly.

Yes it will. Payment is accepted by cash, so the rate offered does not include the surcharge. I have no idea if CC surcharge is payable with pre=paid bookings, but I'd assume the rate you prepay is the rate you'll be charged (except for incidentals).

I booked and stayed at Hilton Adelaide on a pre paid rate during the last sale, it didn't charge to my card prior to stay and paid at checkout as normal so not sure why that was.

Seems to depend on the hotel. Some charge in advance, some dont...

Mine for Hilton Brisbane came through a few weeks ago. Had done most of the spend in Adelaide and had $45 to go to get to $300. Didn't get a trigger email but did see credit post about a week later.

Did Hilton Brisbane charge your credit card prior to the stay, or after (obviously if it wasn't a prepaid rate it's likely the latter). I'm keen to see if I can book a stay for beyond 30/1 now and prepaying.

No prepaid charge doesn't incur the 1.5% credit card surcharge.

Is this some Australian 'law' or a quirk?

I booked Holiday Inn Sydney yesterday on a prepaid and they applied surcharge to my card ..not on the Booking screen but on the screen after where they show you the confirmation # ..

No prepaid charge doesn't incur the 1.5% credit card surcharge.

It seems to be the 'norm' in Australia now. Fiji is 3% which is outrageous when you then add your 3% 'currency conversion' fee plus the spread on the currency the bank will be making.
They charge it because they can in my opinion. When's the last time you showed up at a hotel with cash? Bet that would throw them if we all started to do that.

Just clarifying: if I book and pay now for a stay in February, will I receive the credit?
