Booked 3 nights in Melbourne for 2 adults and 2 kids (or 1 adult and 3 kids as my SO often says).
Emailed the hotel, and we went with the family package : 2 bedroom suite with buffet breakfast and dinner for all the days.
The dates I wanted, I wasn't able to book that package online, but they did it. $549 *3 = $1647, asked him to add $153 to the total to make it a nice $1800- then asked if I could split the payments to 6 cards - he was more then happy to, I just have to fill out some authorisation forms. Net cost $300 per night for 4 people, with dinner breakfast and $153 in room credit - which will probably be used for parking and maybe a message or something for the Mrs.
Thanks AMEX!

edit: I don't stay at hotels too often, but is that a good overall price?!

Yes. A 2 bed suite at HSW is a very comfortable suite for 2A and 2C. It's regularly over $600/night without meals, so you did well. At $300 a night with meals, it's an absolute steal!

Quick tip, if the weather is ordinary, the movie deal works on both TVs. It used to be about $35 for 24 hours for as many movies as you can watch, which means kids can be in the lounge watching a movie and adults can be in the room watching a different movie. Makes it even better value.

EDIT: Whilst speaking of movies, there are adult movies in the selection, but you can request the hotel to lock them out. It may prevent an inquisitive look by the kids!

Thank you unfunkable - I followed your lead, and booked a city view 2-bedroom suite for two nights @ $520/night, room only. Spread across three cards, the net cost works out at $295/night - with all your inclusions, you certainly squeezed better value out of this deal, but I am Diamond (=free breakfast) and we prefer to eat out for dinner so was happy to go room only.

Good Job!
Does anybody know if Sydney Hilton has 2 room suites? I tried inputting in dates for April and nothing comes up, or what kind of room would fit 4 people? Happy to have a single room and 2 queen size beds or similar
cheers

I'm not particularly loyal to any Hotel chain, particularly Hilton as I find their properties very hit & miss. Although with this fantastic Amex offer and the relative price competitiveness at their Adelaide property, Im looking forward to my weekend away this weekend. :)

Unfortunately no, but there's King Suite which you can literally use the lounge/dining area as the 2nd bedroom with fold away beds but not sure if they would allow that. The large bathroom separates the bedroom from the lounge if you want some privacy between rooms.

Hi am at The Adelaide Hilton, booked a mix of normal rates and flash sale, just checked at reception as no charge is still showing on my card for the so called pre-paid flash sale rate to be told it will be charged on checkout all on one bill by the hotel!!! That means I will get the $150 Amex credit for the ultra cheap flash sale rate!!!! As anyone else had this happen?

PS: the pre- authorisation on my card at check-in generated a Amex email, how will this affect using the card to get the credit?

My account is showing a $150 credit. It took 3 separate stays to go over $300.

Was that pre-paid sale rates?
Me?

No, they were gov't flex rates. The reason I posted it was because there is a discrepancy in the Ts&Cs as to whether the spend has to be in one hit or can be in multiple. It looks like multiple works, but as usual YMMV.

Stayed 2 weeks ago..took $600 pre auth, triggered the email..on checkout used 2 cards $300 each and got both credits...The card with the pre auth took 4 days longer for the account credit.( not sure why ) but no problems

Also interested in this if anyone has advice. I am thinking of doing the XMAS meal and spreading it across 2 cards but likely won't book a room stay.

Ring the hotel you are thinking about and ask if it's a Hilton restaurant or a third party. If Hilton swipe the card it may well work, but I think the majority of restaurants are third party and unless you book the account to a room, it will likely be a non-Hilton company who swipe the card.

Very late to the party here - does anyone know if this offer can still be activated, please? Google is not helping me today!

I tried to register a new card yesterday and the offer had already received the maximum registrations :(

Just booked DoubleTree MEL for this weekend @ $299 on flexible booking.

Question 1) I booked this through the Hilton App - this is not a problem is it?
Question 2) A bit trickier, I will charge something (probably parking) to the room to get me over the $300 to trigger the credit - Can I then partially pay an amount on my Visa to get the 5000 bonus point per stay promo they have running at the moment?

I hope that makes sense.

Cheers

I think I read up thread that using a visa for the temporary security charge on check in has triggered it for some who then went on to use their Amex for the statement credit.

Let us know how you go, I'm in a DT next Wednesday and plan to try it out
